He's an amazing athlete and a better person. If you didn't play somewhat high level baseball you can't really wrap your head around hitting .235 at a big league camp. If you haven't had interactions with scouts and seen how the draft works you don't get that if a 6'3 250+ lbs. guy with plus plus power and plus speed who was All-state in Florida as a Junior shows an interest they're going to give him a look regardless of his athletic background and/or age. Hell they drafted Manziel and I think Vick even though they had no interest and didn't play in high school. Which is why all the players respect him and no GM is gonna bang on the Mets for taking a shot, while the talking heads on PTI and geeks on Twitter bemoan the fact that he's "taking somebody's spot."
All that said, for the life of me I don't get why he isn't playing football in some way, shape, or form. If he wants to be an NFL player he could've changed positions and probably still can. If he wants to be a QB he can play anywhere except the NFL and try to improve to where he is a viable NFL starter. Personally I think some teams should have given him a real shot and/or given him 3-4 years as a back-up behind a clear starter and seen what happened, but that wasn't in the cards. You can't tell someone how to live their life especially not someone who does as much good as Tebow, but selfishly I love watching him play QB and wish he were paying dues in the CFL or Arena League or NFL Spring league instead of riding buses around the Southeast.
“I think there are some key components for our football team that aren't playing for us right now. And we're very thin in some areas. And it is what it is. I'm not making excuses, that's just the facts, and it's real. I think we've got a good staff and I think that we've got a really good football team. They're fighting their butt off this Saturday, first of all, and heading into spring. And I'm excited about that. I'm excited about this Saturday and our guys getting out and competing again."
I have to admit that I was not overly impressed watching Tebow throw the ball when he got to UF, and wasn't sure how successful he would be. However, one 4th down play on the third Saturday in September his freshman year showed me all I needed to see about whether he could play. He is just a winner and an absolute beast of an athlete. I don't understand why he gets so much backlash from the media. I know many UT Vol fans who hate UF with a passion but are Tebow fans. I'd take Tim Tebow with two broken arms over Brock Oswieler any day.

Tebow will be 30 in August. The football ship sailed long ago. He chose not to go to Canada or the Arena League to try to polish his skills when he had the chance, and he declined offers to change positions. When Bill Belichick gave up on him, that was probably it for a lot of teams.
