Preposterous. Absolutely preposterous. And I love it.
“I think there are some key components for our football team that aren't playing for us right now. And we're very thin in some areas. And it is what it is. I'm not making excuses, that's just the facts, and it's real. I think we've got a good staff and I think that we've got a really good football team. They're fighting their butt off this Saturday, first of all, and heading into spring. And I'm excited about that. I'm excited about this Saturday and our guys getting out and competing again."

Expectations should be low after a 1-11 season. That, plus MAC teams tend to hold onto their coaches for a long time, barring something catastrophic or them bolting for a better job. Terry Bowden was fired at Akron today, after being there for seven years and finishing 35-52 over that time.

Central Michigan was once a pretty consistent power in the MAC. Not sure what happened there.
An article on CBS Sports gave Central an A- grade on the hiring. It made me wonder if they paid any attention at all to what happened at Florida. Maybe "used to coach in the SEC" is a big deal in the MAC, even if he sucked at it.
Reminds me a lot of when Illinois hired Ron Zook. They believed that they were getting a coach who won seven games a year (which would get your name put on the stadium at Champaign), when in fact they were getting a coach who lost five games a year with national championship caliber talent.

"Coach McElwain recruits outstanding student-athletes and gets the best out of them. He motivates his players and holds them accountable," athletic director Michael Alford said in a statement. "He expects them to practice hard, win, go to class, graduate and be strong members of our community.
"I've seen firsthand that Coach Mac is a proven winner."
"Gets the best out of them"? Did this guy even watch any of our games? He went 4-7 with basically all of the talent in Florida to choose from. Our offense was an unproductive mess. At the flagship school in Florida, he was continually bringing in castoff and one-and-done quarterbacks. He very possibly ruined Feleipe Franks. He ran off probably the best quarterback we have had since Tim Tebow. I can't wait to see what he throws on the field from what a MAC team can recruit.
This AD will likely wind up being fired along with McElwain.
