I've said all along that the best hire Mullen has had to date is bringing Savage with him from Mississippi St. This weekend bore that out because the kids from MSU that Savage had for multiple years killed it while the guys that were "developed" by the foggy bottom boys saw their stock drop like a stone with the exception of Jawaan Taylor, you had former 5 stars like Jefferson looking small (6'1.5), soft (266), slow and unathletic (5.03 40 and 17 reps on bench) while the guys who were developed under this regime at Miss. State absolutely killed it with Sweat (a 3 star) showing freakish athleticism (4.41 and 21 reps at 6'5.75, 266??) and flying up draft boards. If Mullen's S&C department can develop probably 3 kids into 1st rounders at Miss. St, it's fun to think about what they can do with top 5 classes if we can pull them in.
“I think there are some key components for our football team that aren't playing for us right now. And we're very thin in some areas. And it is what it is. I'm not making excuses, that's just the facts, and it's real. I think we've got a good staff and I think that we've got a really good football team. They're fighting their butt off this Saturday, first of all, and heading into spring. And I'm excited about that. I'm excited about this Saturday and our guys getting out and competing again."
