This is a good example why i hope Mullen has the team ready to go and focused on not just winning the opener, but crushing scUM the way Fla beat Michigan and FSU in 2018. I remember Muschamp down playing the 2013 game like it was an Outback Bowl vs some B1G team whereas scUM and their players treated that game like it was the National Title Game.
2019 can be a huge year for Gator football. The Florida Cup is up for grabs, Franks and the Offense should keep improving, lots of talent on Defense. A 10+ win season in 2019 will truly show Fla is back as a National Title contender and is the Elite program of the the state.
I want to see the scUM fan base (who i've had the displeasure of living around my whole life) silenced and humbled so bad. They have been running their mouths ever since the end of last season despite being a 6 loss team and Fla being a 10 win NY6 Bowl Winner, SMH.
You still can't spell scUM without UM, 44-14 Gators!
I have always loved Kerwin Bell. I was a junior at UF and drove down to Miami for this game with my then-girlfriend, who was from Miami Beach. What a great game this was. Because we beat them soundly back when they were really good. I miss playing them first game of every season, and hope we will put them back on our regular schedule.
About a year after this, in my senior year, I was working as a server at Chili's in Gainesville, and I waited on Kerwin and his girlfriend, who is now his wife. What a super nice guy he is. I am happy he has a good job now at a D1 school -- he's now the Offensive Coordinator for Charlie Strong at USF. While of course I don't want them to eclipse UF, I hope he does well. I have always hoped that he would come back and coach for UF.
Anyway, hoping we beat the crap out of the Canes this year, and forever after.
Great stuff Ocean, thanks for posting this. I really miss Sun Sports, Sunshine Network, and Sports Channel Florida. They had alot of dedicated programming for us. Then the big boys from ESPN took over aka SEC Network and nothing personalized, no more Breakfast with the Gators or weekly interviews with the coach.
