If Stoops stays at Kentucky he’ll end up having the stadium named after him. He’d be crazy to leave there. I thought the same thing about Scott Frost in Orlando, and look what happened. If Frost had stayed put, UCF became a Power 5 job this year. I don't necessarily believe that Frost would have flamed out at Florida the way that he did at Nebraska. There wouldn't have been the pressure of restoring glory to a program that he led to a national championship as a quarterback. In Florida he was smack in the middle of a national recruiting hotbed, and he was winning battles with more storied programs for some recruits. Nebraska has lost their identity since going from the Big 12 to the Big Ten. Their history was built elsewhere, and it means nothing to Big Ten fans - especially with the program down and losing to what should be lesser programs. Without reputation and success, Nebraska is a very difficult place to recruit to, especially when their competition includes Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State. Nebraska's period of national prominence was so long ago that it is irrelevant to current recruits.

What do we think about this, fellow Gators? I have never followed Elko at all. He made Duke relevant again in football, which isn't easy. Yeah but he didn't have a 5 year plan, a process, a massive new football complex, and an army of analysts. He had to get out while the gettin was still good. The GATORS OTOH, we have it all. Except Ws, but you learn more from Ls amiright?

He's only been there two seasons and did ok, but Cutcliffe was there from 2008-21 and pulled them out of the dumpster to the team's first ever 10-win season and an ACC Championship berth. Not saying it's a bad hire for TAMU, but it feels a little like Billy Napier to me (though he does have a connection as a former DC for the Aggies). I'm not sure Aggies fans should be thrilled with a guy who's been a head coach for all of 2 seasons and whose only connection to the state of Texas at all was three years as a DC. That said, based on the Aggie blogs I've been reading, these folks are as delusional as Warchant and probably have already formed 6,000 reasons Elko is The Greatest Hire Of All Time.

Looks like Stoops is staying put. I think he is a good coach. For Kentucky. I’m not sure he is a great coach who can get to the pinnacle. I don’t know why A&M would want him other than the fact he is white. I would swap him for RDB, but he isn’t a coach I would seek out to lead our program if given free rein to find a great one. I’m sure Stricklin would sign him in a heartbeat and brag about it though. Stoops has been fantastic at Kentucky. Maybe he can't lead them to a national championship, but he'll be a legend there if he stays put.

However, if he were to jump to a bigger, higher pressure, opportunity, I think he would potentially be out of a job in 3-4 years.

100%. It's the Billy Napier/Scott Frost/Dan Mullen problem. I suppose the hardest part here is figuring out who can handle the jump; who is Urban Meyer/Kirby Smart, and who is Will Muschamp?

We should create a position at the university that is responsible for making those evaluations and pay them to do it well. He/She could also oversee the same decisions for all sports and try not to embarrass the school with sex scandals, etc. Maybe this person could be called Director of Athletes or something like that.

He is also making the broad assumption that there won't be massive losses through the transfer portal. I believe that any player with any talent who isn't devoted to Napier is gone. I'm looking at you, Trevor Etienne.
BTW, I'm stealing that comment for the Zook/Napier gibberish thread.

Yeah I guess, except ADs don't apparently do this very well (especially our ADs).

It started early, but it looks like it might be a slow year for the Carousel. Some warm seats out there, but not so many hot hot ones. This aged well.

It may not be done yet. Some of the schools who haven't announced hires may be looking at current coaches.
