www.onlygators.com/01/05/2024/florida-football-recruiting-ol-devon-manuel-joins-gators-from-transfer-portal-as-richie-leonard-iv-departs/Starting interior line has all gone the way of the dodo. We're bringing in another 3 star tackle. Not going to research further but fwiw Manuel's PFF grade 70.9 was a little higher than Leonard's 65.9 and Barber's (LT) 64.1 and a good bit higher than George's (RT) 60.9. Seems like the logical thing to do would be have Manuel play tackle and see if George or Waites (who has struggled with weight since following CWT from the Bayou) are less awful inside that they were at tackle. So, I'm not sure what we'll do but it probably won't be that. This article is interesting: gatorswire.usatoday.com/2024/01/08/florida-football-transfer-porta-devon-manuel-arkansas-razorbacks/Of note: Arkansas signed Manuel as a three-star prospect out of high school. He weighed nearly 400 pounds but has since worked his weight down to the low 300s. Standing at 6-feet-9-inches tall, he has the ideal SEC lineman’s body.- it would be nice/interesting to see a guy who has put in the work to get in shape. “They have a lot of people who work in the o-line room,” Manuel said. “It just felt like I have a lot of resources there that will be valuable. I feel like my development will be better and faster with all the things accessible to me.” That we do Edward. That we do. Couple things: 1) Pittman is the best O-line coach in the world. He took Braun from a kid who couldn't get on the field at UF to 2nd team All-SEC. If he actually thinks he'll get better coaching from our dynamic duo he's not very smart and in for a rude awakening. I am hoping this is just justification/political correctness because he wants to get away from Petrino, in which case he's smart. 2) Why can't we develop, recruit, or even hold onto any offensive lineman when there are 2 offensive line coaches on staff? This has been used as an excuse for both of the bigger problems of not having an OC/QB coach and not having a special teams coach, and yet there is seemingly no benefit. Par for the course.

gatorswire.usatoday.com/2024/01/09/florida-football-aidan-warner-transfer-portal-commitment/Huge get. I have a hard team believing that we only beat out Minnesota and Miami for this kid who red-shirted at Yale. Bama and UGA probably trying to stay under the radar soas not to frighten off high school kids knowing that Awesome Aidan would be taking the starters reins for the next 2 years before heading to the NFL. I'm telling you though, between the success of secret words and players coaches on special teams and now having 2 Ivy Leaguers, we're going to a lot more player-coaches including at QB. This will free up a slot for a 3rd Offensive line coach, speculation is that we'll have a Center coach, a Guard coach, and a tackle coach. Also, can we get another DC in here please? You don't hear about 2 headed monsters, we need a third. That way Austin can be in charge of jumping around like a pudgy 5 year old who found the pixie stick stash, Ronnie can be in charge of late game prevent, and the third musketeer can make sure that the scooter that 500 lbs. Desmond Watson requires to check into and out of the game is fully charged.

Prototypical Napier QB. 72% completion, 11 yards per completion, minimal TDs, and knows how to take a sack. Should be a great mentor for Lagway.

He probably just needs better competition, he must have gotten bored at Nevada and then Colorado State. So bored that he lost his starting job last year. I see some great things happening here now that he'll be challenged.

Waterson is high on Starkville Scotty's hiring list, the sport doesn't matter, it's all about chronology.

IMO this goes far beyond NIL money. Not every kid is going where the most money is, yet we are still losing out on almost all of them. There is a systemic problem, and this should take both Napier and Stricklin down with it. The down side is that it will also bring with it a fourth consecutive losing season, more significant losses through the transfer portal, and an even deeper hole for the incoming head coach and AD to tunnel out of.

There is a systemic problem, and this should take both Napier and Stricklin down with it. The down side is that it will also bring with it a fourth consecutive losing season, more significant losses through the transfer portal, and an even deeper hole for the incoming head coach and AD to tunnel out of. Princely left because he wants to improve his draft stock and Ole Miss is a better option than UF. Etienne left because he wants to win and UGA is a better option than UF. Scooby Williams and Jayden Hill went to Texas A&M because their Defensive line coach who used to be our defensive line coach is better than our D-line coach and their DC who used to be our LBers coach is better than our DC. Their head coach has a defensive background and Power 5 success, so his hiring and retaining process is likely to be superior to CWT's. Nobody can make a valid argument that any of them were wrong. There were only 2 guys from last year in real consideration as a first round pick in either of the next 2 drafts (Marshall's stock could rebound I suppose but as long as Titties McJiggles is the DC I'll be skeptical) and they left because the coaching and development was better at other spots. There were a few defections for playing time reasons but the guys leaving are better than the guys coming in per the experts, so that's not great. I am also yet to see one of these non-flips that is even speculated outside of the kool-aid drinkers and as being primarily about NIL money. To the extent NIL money is a problem that is 100% on the administration and the coaching staff for lack of results and poor strategy/marketing. But don't worry, another couple thousand seats in the stands should fix that right up. Also we got Matt Millen's kid who is old and Matt Millen is even older than his kid so Operation Fine Wine is really getting some traction.

So, with the two guys from this years class that entered the portal when King Nick retired count towards our current recruiting class and have shot it all the up to 15th. That's a deal there. Right?

Yes, and also the fact that it is very loosely defined as “news” when it comes from your own pushed media outlets. As Mike Meyers said in “So I Married an Ax Muderer” "Mom, I find it interesting that you call 'The Weekly World News' 'The Paper'. A paper contains facts."

Oh, its a fact alright, we are killing it in the Walk On market! This TE is all the way from Cali-forn-aye, and he's coming all this way because he wants to, not just because of some relative before him!

Yes! A true Gator, not one of those high profile athletes that are just in it for the winning, NFL prep, and the money! Yeah not one of those fake Gators who don't know how to block for the all American QB That's right. Gutsy Graham Mertz is not just the second best Gator QB since Tim Tebow, he's the second best player ever. Dude accounted for 24 TDs, 2837 yards, and 5 wins last year. Sure naysayers will point out that about 75% of his production was when we were down multiple scores and/or playing epically bad defenses like Arkansas, South Carolina, and LSU, but I'm pretty sure those are all records in the modern day era, and it screams for him to mentor an incoming 5 star.

My favorite part of the Gutsy Graham the Checkdown Man hero narrative is that people are pronouncing him better than 3 guys who have started in the NFL, including the 4th overall pick. I'll say it one last time, if you are designing an offense and calling plays and there is an argument of any kind that Graham Mertz is a better fit than Anthony Richardson you should not be allowed to coach/coordinate offensive football at any level. Graham Mertz is not evidence of what Napier can do with a QB, he's evidence of what he can't and how low the ceiling is. Lagway struggled against better competition in the all-star games but is the most physically gifted kid in his class. Sound familiar? That's a lot more Anthony Richardson than it is Graham Mertz.

I hate to be like this but I’m almost looking forward to how comically bad Napier handles Lagway this season. We’ll see how committed he is to this offense when he sees it up close and we lose 8 games.
