I just returned last night from a trip to Blacksburg, VA, where my stepdaughter had a campus tour and an interview for admission to the veterinary medicine program at Virginia Tech (very nice campus, if you get the chance sometime). On the way back was when the fun began. We had a connection at Chicago-O'Hare. We boarded our flight to Las Vegas and waited on the aircraft for an hour and 40 minutes - because the plane had not been refueled for the return trip. The captain explained that for some reason, there were about half as many fuel trucks as usual at O'Hare last night.
This is the single dumbest thing that I have ever experienced while flying, and I have been flying since the early 1960s. With the time spent at the gate, this is the longest period of time that I have ever spent aboard an aircraft that wasn't flying to Europe. Thanks, United.
