Still have me a little worried about our S&C department.
Richardson- freak of all freaks, don't think it has anything to do with the S&C department but give them a win I guess Shorter- bottom third in 40, tied for slowest 10 yard split, middle of the pack on jumps, did okay on bench so there's that Dean and Torrence were the 2 slowest DBs at the combine, Dean was the strongest though, dude's a tank, 25 reps! Dean- 4.75, Torrence 4.72, next slowest DB 4.65. Dexter- top 5 in 40, tied for 3rd weakest DL. 22 reps. O'Cyrus- he's a big Guard so I guess we can look past the speed and agility shit, but again weak 23 reps on bench tied for 4th worst among OL, Gouriagge tied this. They're getting out benched by a 200 lbs. safety.
Just for reference Copeland ran 4.42. Really could have used him with Richardson's arm and deep ball, but it probably just would have been even more frustrating watching the play calling.
I feel like they need to do more position performance specific training. Our guys who are supposed to be fast are strong and slow while our guys who are supposed to be strong are quick and weak. Doesn't make sense.
Also, I really hope Desmond Watson improves enough to get a combine invite.

I feel like they're risking a lawsuit if anything goes wrong (God forbid) by running a 450 lbs. kid out there for Spring Practice and early Fall games. I mean it cannot be medically recommended.

Yeah I can’t imagine that is healthy.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd Desmond Watson is now listed at 449 lbs. If true, that is almost 70 pounds above his listed weight when he was recruited. I don't understand why nutritionists and doctors haven't spoken up about his condition and offered some direction. Goodness knows that Napier has a big enough staff for somebody in the room to say that this is a terrible idea.

That must be a misprint. Someone was reading an old WWF Wrestlemania program and accidentally copied over Yokozuna’s weight, right?

It's amazing but not altogether surprising, if this was a Pavlovian experiment it kind of follows. Promise a reward for a specific behavior (get down to 375 and you will get to play), when subject fails to behave as described (weight stayed at 415) give them a small reward (small amounts of playing time in goal line situations). Reiterate the command (get down to 375) but this time subject doesn't just fail to comply, but does the opposite (weight goes up to 430), give not only a reward but a huge reward (named starter and on the field even on some critical 3rd downs). Next time he's going to come back even heavier.
Think about it, he was told to lose 30 lbs. when he came in, over the course of 2021 he wound up at 415, he got a little run, he was told by new S&C staff that if he got down to 375 he could be an every down player, comes into Spring at 415. Over the summer gains 15 lbs. (at least given that he may have lost some weight during Spring practice) and reports to Fall camp at 430. They make him a starter and every down player. So he goes and gains 20 lbs. before Spring practice because if 15 is good 20 is more gooder. If history is any indication they'll probably make him a captain and start a Badnarik award campaign. I cannot believe we continue to run him out there.

I cannot believe we continue to run him out there. I don’t think he’ll be “running” anywhere at that weight, but certainly has done everything wrong and continues to be rewarded with playing time. Wasn’t part of Napier’s job to instill more discipline? I don’t mean a made up job like Muschamp claiming part of his was to clean up the program. I clearly recall part of why Napier was a good fit was because of his attention to detail and running a disciplined program. I thought that was why all of our other guys were jumping into the portal. But then, maybe Watson is too vertically challenged to jump anywhere, much less, into the transfer portal.

I read an article after he had a big 4 tackle game and people decided he was the key to our defense and ignored people running right in his gap because he can’t move laterally that said “he’s super disciplined with his diet and he’s on the bike constantly, he’s just a big guy.” If he’s strict with his diet and exercises regularly he needs to see a doctor immediately. You know how many calories he has to eat to be in a surplus even if he doesn’t move at 6’5 430 lbs? 6332 calories. If he walks to the fridge and bathroom it goes to 7k. If he does anything outside the house like attending class it’s 7500-8k. If he’s lazy but going to practice and conditioning sessions it’s gotta be 10k+. If we was working half as hard as they say it’s probably over 15000 calories. Also, can you imagine Bama or Georgia or really any competitive program with sustained success signing a project at 380 and still having him first string on the depth chart after he gained 70 lbs? ?? That is clown shoes, especially for a program claiming discipline and managing every variable no matter how minor. Don’t worry though, we’re on a 10 year plan while we find our footing. I hear austin Armstrong yells a lot at practice. So we’ve got that going for us. Which is nice

This kind of obesity is a big risk for diabetes, heart disease and a myriad of other health problems. What kind of physical exams are being given to Watson? I am very concerned about his overall health.

Sumo wrestlers eat up to 7,000 calories a day and weigh 300 to 400 pounds or two to three times as much as the average adult.
I don’t have a source for the above but found it on a Google Search, so it must be true. Just throwing this out there as a point of reference for how ridiculously unhealthy Watson must be. Sumo wrastlers have an average life expectancy between 60 and 65 due to their high risk of pulmonary disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. I’m sure this will end well if it keeps trending the way it has.

I truly don't understand why no one in the athletic department has stepped up and said no more. It honestly wouldn't surprise me to see Watson dying during summer drills. Then his family sues the university for not intervening, then...
At the very least, a nutritionist needs to step in.

This has been one my concerns from the beginning. When is his heart going to give out? This is an extension of the "healthy at any size" insanity. It's NOT healthy carrying around, in this case, let's be kind and say 100 lbs of excess fat. It's a matter of time.

I think the athletic department's plan is to hope he graduates before he dies. Then blame it on anything but their own failure to do their jobs.

Agreed, I just don't know how you can pride yourself on discipline and attention to detail and then play a kid that came in as an overweight project and has gained 70 lbs. in the program.
