It was a small group for Pro Day this year, but I think what you see is a strong group of young men who are not only good at playing make believe, but who are also high-character guys who have shown the ability to do the right things off the field.

Armstrong added. “A big part of our system that we managed directly from him. He’s one of the fathers of modern defensive football and to have him in this building and to have him at my right arm at all times helping us, I couldn’t be luckier.”
Clearly, what he meant to say is that Roberts is a father who coaches in modern day football. Right?

Oh, I left off the part about when asked about any player on the roster, the response is "First and foremost, he is a great person - not just on the field, but he does things the right way off the field. He is a high character guy and leader for this program." It is strange how we have 50 GD analysts who have all come to the same conclusions about this squad.

I really wish they would stop allowing interviews at this point. This is just beyond ridiculous. Obviously the strategy is "be as vague as possible, don't commit to knowing or doing anything specific, compliment the rest of the staff and how appreciative you are to be a part of this truly amazing group that is about the set the world on fire." Sound familiar? This is Ron Zook 2.0 without the recruiting victories and with a worse win/loss record.
Now, Napier did say at one point that there would be a lot of people mad at him in Gainesville after year two. Well, there are a lot of people -- perhaps not as many as expected -- mad at him after year two. So let's sit back and see this magical process take off this year. Quit asking questions, keep writing blank checks, and trust the process. We don't need to see tangible results. It will happen. All they need is time and faith.

As I think about it, he talks a lot about evaluating and analyzing but not so much about adjustments. Maybe that's the missing piece, he just gathers information with no intent to use it. And really, that's the most important part - the "using of the information". Anyone can just "make evaluations".

I love this so much. Video title since it's protected: Florida Gators ready for next step with Callaway, Mertz, and Boardingham | Enoch Wangoy commits Enoch is a rugby player from England. Russ Callaway is a former defensive intern. Arlis Boardingham caught 26 balls for 270 yards last year. Graham Mertz is Graham Mertz. We are locked and fucking loaded. I also saw where it's a good thing that our 2 overweight Defensive Tackles gained a combined 55 lbs. because "that's a big dude." Just an aside on how Callaway was so involved in "calling" in plays last year and how he learned so much and will now be an influencer on actual play calling... I was a kicker in high school, and they let me signal in plays sometimes. Am I ready to take the next step now? I swear to God. We must be the only team in America in the year of our Lord, 2024, that requires a three-year ramp up for any of our players to be somewhat competent at playing their respective positions. Do other teams talk to the media constantly about now they now "know what they are doing" after having experience and how transfers have seen how to be successful elsewhere and can now share with the others "what it takes"?

Aww, yeah. This is EXACTLY what it was like in 2006 with Chris Leak and Tebow, except Mertz had a chance to go into the NFL draft. So in many ways it is even a bigger mentorship. Mertz is definitely dedicated to bringing the Gators back - almost as dedicated as he is to the hesher mullet life. Except Leak was a terrific QB who could fling it 50+ yards with accuracy and was slippery enough to run the option. Recall that it was the second quarter of the national championship game before he even had an incomplete pass. Well, yeah, there's that. But otherwise, EXACTLY the same. Also, the combination is older because of Mertz, and that is what wins championships. So, this is how I see this developing. Napier is going to feel some pressure to play Lagway in spots this year even though he clearly does not want to. I expect zero deviation from the offensive scheme regardless of which QB is in the game, so Lagway will come in for some situations to either run the ball or throw a screen (RPO). He might run more often than throw and maybe even have a ball snapped between his legs, but how many legitimate game changing 3rd/4th and short opportunities do we expect to have? He is going to look great against Samford and UCF, but will get blown up against Georgia and LSU because of our offensive game plan and scheme. Maybe CWT completely surprises us and we see a brand new, wide-open, aggressive approach. But if we didn't see that with Richardson under center, then why do we expect anything different this year?

Does the author of this article speak English? I was two sentences in when I caught a grammatical error and a typo. It's the Queens English in one of the foreign countries where we have sent the Napier army to, we got a lacrosse player from England in this class already and that sparkly unicorn kid from Germany in the last class so I'm think somebody from Scandinavia who currently plays soccer for a team named the Narwals is probably next in the pipeline. It's a process deal man. Right? Yes, we have opened up the previously untapped hotbed of recruits through the Ivy League/European pipeline. The systems are in place. Now we pounce!

Get used to seeing daily news like this now that the systems are built. Napier had time to meet with this recruit because we have a GM now. Also, I have a feeling we are looking at our next co-WRs coach in current GA David Doeker. He played and coached at Louisiana, and we just got an influx of funding to make some promotions.

My understanding about NIL is that it is intended to literally compensate players for the use of their name, image and likeness in advertising and merchandise sales (jerseys, covers of and presence in video games, television and print advertising, etc.). In effect, it is none of these. Players are being signed to paid contracts to play for certain schools, which is not my impression of what it is supposed to be. Yes, I don’t understand (Well, I understand, but it is stupid) how it has become what it is. It should be as simple as them making a percentage based off of revenue on their name. E.g. you appear on a video game, your merchandise sells, they put you on a billboard, etc. and you get a percentage of those profits. Maybe do a small flat percentage across the board for ticket sales (some will show up regardless of which 6th year senior returns to play). Isn’t that where NIL originated? A small minority was making billions off of college athletes, and they couldn’t even accept a free meal without being suspended. That is what I thought we were getting into… didn’t they do a short period of a stipend or something first? I can’t remember, but it went from nothing to stupid in a hurry.

.. and puts a cherry on top for assistant coaching salaries. We need some more assistant coaches so that’s nice. The sad reality is we do need some assistant coaches, but he’ll never hire one. We’re working on a 1:1 analyst to player model.

Mertz to Dike. Probably sometimes Dike back to Mertz. All in a 5-7 yard radius. How can they fight us in a phone booth when we have Desmond Watson? They can't. Because Desmond doesn't fit in phone booths. Don't sleep on Tyler the Tattooed Dipping Intern and GM Mike Robinson either. Those dudes are a power couple. Montrell has been spotted taking shotgun snaps through the legs of Mertz on the sidelines in between offensive reps. This sets up for an ironic Johnson to Dike connection at some point during the season. It will be bigger than the jump pass.

Between that Mertz quote and Tyler the Intern's press conference that nobody asked for, I'm starting to wonder if part of the process isn't public speaking in a completely incoherent way. That's why Mertz is back. #

Obviously this list was published before Chimere Dike decided to return for his 2nd senior season instead of opting to the NFL draft.

Check this out. My source left a recording device at CWT's poker game the other night, and here is the transcript of the recording:
Random Dude: "Yo, Billae Boiye. Man, what the hell ya'll doin' up that fancy sports complex ya got? Things seem to be crazy AF!! They really still payin' you?" Napier: "Yeah, man. It's fuckin' nuts. At this point I am just makin' shit up and everything I do they just lap up like a dog on shit. I honestly don't know what else I can do to rock the boat." Other Random Dude: "Is it true you hired a head coach of the defense to oversee your DC, promoted a co-OC, and are still calling all of the offensive plays and overseeing the offensive scheme? Man, that takes some serious balls. Napier: Yeah, and get this... I also told the fans and media right to their face that I was going to address the special teams situation. And did you see what I did? I brought on another off-field analyst! Never laughed so hard in all my life when they had to announce that. And nobody cared! But that's nothing compared to what I am about to unleash this week. I just promoted our intern, Tyler, to strength and conditioning director or manager, coach -- hell, I can't remember what titles are left. Anyway, he is the guy we are saying is running that department. I'm going to have him talk to the media. Dude has tattoos down his arms, dips like a maniac, and has never spoken in public ever. He will be completely out of his element and will in no way look like he belongs in that position. Random Dude #1: But, he isn't required to meet with the press, is he? Napier: "Shit no, but guess what he is about to do? Meet with the press because fuck it. Seven million dollars, bro! Who wants to go to the strip club?"

This is the second thing I've seen that has hailed the "size up front" as a good thing. I guess maybe when we had even mediocre football coaches the media seemed less stupid? I feel like the entire culture from the fanbase to the media has become about as uninformed and delusional as any in the country. It's 20 year old men crying and holding each other during a loss, YouTubers saying "stop being so mean," and writers alternately not following up when he spits garbage or flat false statements and then trying to spin news as a positive. It's an alternate reality. "Florida certainly has plenty of bulk at defensive tackle, as Des Watson weighed in at 464 pounds in camp, while Cam Jackson weighed in at 374 pounds. That mass could come into handy stopping the run, though it's questionable whether both are suitable playing weights in the SEC dealing with mobile quarterbacks. It will be up to new strength coach Tyler Miles and nutritionist Jake Sankal to determine suitable playing weights for both going forward." Wow. Just wow. I think the media is so incredibly desperate to keep things positive heading into the Orange and Blue game. Surely (stop calling me Shirley) they will run out of ways to spin things and create make believe stories. It has become an embarrassment. Luckily for us we are only nationally relevant when there is a scandal.

He's dumber than Zook, more stubborn than Mullen, and worse with the media than McGoober. He's a perfect storm. Of bullshit. You can add that he has also adopted Muschamp's offense, which works just as well now as it did then. When we aren't running up the middle, we're throwing five yard sideline patterns. I said this then, and it is just as true today: A defensive coordinator could put all 11 guys within 5-7 yards of the line of scrimmage and stop 95 percent of what we run. In other words, he possesses the exact opposite of the qualities that are representative of the Gators' brand of football. It is the classic conservative approach that keeps you in just enough games that people start to believe in the facade that you were only a couple plays away from winning big. While, in reality, we never really had a chance.

Will Harris is letting people tackle him and Chatman has a loud voice. Tyler the intern learned a lot in not only his year under Hockey who is pursuing his dream to move out of strength and conditioning and into Xs and Os but also his month with Fitz who is a super duper guy who we should be grateful we only had for a month because tis better to have loved and lost than never loved at all. Callaway could easily be the next Austin Armstrong. We're looking good. At least someone is getting tackled, and that is improvement right there. Most likely this is due to the powerful impression Fitz left on this program after 5 solid weeks of dedication. We should make "Fitz" patches for our jerseys this season and dedicate each of our 3 wins to his spirit.

Nice. Yet another advantage to not playing in a championship game, bowl game, or playoff is that you can make your decision to stay much earlier and get back to work with the new strength and conditioning coach ASAP.

Yeah, you see a lot of first time SEC coaches make the mistake of already having a proven system in place before they get hired. That leaves no room for evaluating and adjusting.

And he is wearing #1, not a number reserved for a non-starter (unless you count special teams where we will have multiple wearing #1). No way he doesn’t start. Naw, he's not wearing number 1, I had a buddy say that but it's Justus Boone who is one of CWT's favorite players of ever because he's very transparent and of course Montrell Johnson because he's Montrell Johnson. The 1 in the article just means it's the most notable, and I guess I'll give them that. There was nothing about him in any of the Spring Practice Day 1 reports I've seen, just lots about how Graham Mertz is back and on a mission and serving as a great mentor for Lagway. I don't know if that means he didn't practice or they just don't want to talk about it. Either way it's comical that they allow him to continue being on the roster and taking up 1 scholarship and 3 seats on the plane. Oh, my bad. I totally misread the article and thought they were reporting jersey number changes as well. You have to hand it to him, though. He was motivated to becoming the heaviest player in the country after being surpassed last season by that TCU freshman. If I am not mistaken, this makes him the heaviest to ever play college football, correct? The heaviest NFL player was Gibson at 410, so there's another goal Des could set his sites on if he doesn't die on the field.

What is the difference between this list and just a list of potential recruits that I print off of my home printer and say, “man, would be great to have these guys”? Nothing as long as you have some "sources" and then dive into analysis of what those sources "Sources say that he knows Scott Sricklin does ritualistic fellatio on farm animals, so UF has some ground to make up here" That sort of thing. Note to self: Get "sources"
