Tied 7-7 after 1 quarter. Not too shabby! That bottle thing they ran on 4th and 2 was beautiful. The team looks like they are interestedly in playing the game so that’s already better than last season ended.

2 kickoffs 2 penalties! Will we stay under my 8 or less total?

Respectful half! We out played them for the most part. One huge missed tackle and one huge turnover but all in all not bad.

Torrance missed two big tackles in the same series, once on the qb and one on a tightend all within 3 or 4 plays. Can't have safties that cannot tackle. Reggie Nelson probably has tears in his eyes.

Game one of the Napier era, not sure we could ask for more. Few good years of recruiting and this could be fun.

This team looks much better than I expected. Especially on offense. There’s still some slop to clean up but I love the way the scheme gets players in space.

I can't help but think how much this game will pay off this season. The idea that you never give up was never more in play than last night. Let's face it, things looked pretty grim. Utah sitting there on the doorstep trying to win it, but *knowing* they could tie it and go into OT. But the QB made a bad decision and Amari Burney was there to make him pay. Burney said, "Someone had to make a play. It happened to be me." This game will help the spirit of the team, the fight, the knowledge that it truly ain't over till it's over. It's going to help recruiting, it's going to help erase that fiasco of a bowl game last year. It's all good. All good.

Can we acknowledge that crazy pump fake that AR pulled off before he tossed it to a wide open WR in the end zone? Richardson looked very good last night. If we keep him healthy we’re gonna win some games this year.

That was a very good team who came into Gainesville on Saturday. A lot of the remarks at yesterday's watch party were compliments about Utah's QB and receivers. That was a game that Florida could easily have lost, and one that many people expected them to lose. Yet they found a way. A defense that bent a lot came up with the plays when Utah was about to put the game away - twice. Anthony Richardson was phenomenal. Like many of you, I am wondering why Dan Mullen was so obsessed with Emory Jones when he had a talent like Richardson on the roster. If AR keeps playing like this, he will be one and done as the starter and off to the NFL Draft. On the telecast last night, it was stated that he is currently the #12 overall prospect for the 2023 draft.

On the telecast last night, it was stated that he is currently the #12 overall prospect for the 2023 draft. My mind was drifting back to Emory Jones as well. The only excuse I can come up with for CDM was that he'd invested so much in EJ, he wasn't going to let it go. Kinda like Grantham, you know? So AR was going to have to wait, and he couldn't even grasp the idea that EJ wasn't his best QB. Couldn't even understand why people were asking about getting AR more playing time. Well, that's one of many reasons why he's sitting in an ESPN chair and Billy Napier is coaching the Gators now.

I just want add what an incredible job the coaching staff has done. These kids were coached up compared to last year. And it was most noticeable in AR. He was reading the defense and making good decisions, something not always apparent last year. He seemed to be trusting his arm more as the game went on. Can wait to see how he develops this year.
Btw we really did miss Ventral Miller last year. What a stud! Great leader.

That was a great win. The offensive line can play. Physically Anthony Richardson is the #1 pick in the draft. If he stays healthy he'll go top 5. I'm sure Napier already knows it, but he's gone. The #12 prospect ranking by Kiper/McShay is about as low as I've seen even before he did anything. Confirms what we already knew as far as Mullen checking out. Etienne is better than advertised and the backfield is loaded. Wide Receivers looked good not great. Hopefully someone elevates as an over the top threat to open up the full playbook because Richardson can literally do everything on a football field.
Concerns are pretty much the same as I thought they would be. Depth, Depth, and Depth. Largely on Defense. The fact that we have a 430 (program weight) kid who gained 15 pounds (again in the program which means he probably gained 30 and weighs 445) between Spring Practice and the Season Opener getting meaningful snaps in the fourth quarter is funny but really an awful indictment of where Mullen left this roster. Every time he is in the game teams will run inside or off tackle. He can't move. I'd go tempo as well because he can't get off the field without a timeout. If Kentucky is smart (jury is out and Stoopes is a defensive guy) they'll exploit that. It sticks out in every which way. Utah is known for being physical up front, but they neutralized Dexter (1st round grade by most) & Cox (late 1/early 2) pretty good. Linebackers looked good. Dean had a great game but he's basically a LBer playing safety so this game was in his wheelhouse. At least he likes to hit and we're gonna need that at the second level it looks like. Torrance must have started tackling better in the second half, I had to listen to the first quarter and a half on radio. He'll be alright, snuck into the top 5 safety prospects on a lot of sites and scouting report is that scouts like his physicality. Again, behind those guys though we're really really green.
Lot to love about that gameplan and this team. With the transfers coming following from Louisiana and the seemingly 180 culture turnaround this is starting to feel a lot like early Urban Meyer minus the personality flaws. Hopefully we shore up the NIL organization and give Napier the support he needs in that area because I really think he's the guy and it's nice not to qualify my opinion on our coach with "I hope I'm wrong......." Go Gators.
