Kentucky 26, Florida 16 - This game was as bad as last week's was good, Anthony Richardson played like a sophomore in his third start - 14/35 with two interceptions, one leading to a Kentucky TD and the other being returned for one. The defense caved all night, especially on pass plays. The Wildcats had 272 yards passing, to Florida's 143. A dreadful effort on both sides of the ball. Kentucky obviously took a page out of the Utah playbook, because the tight end gave us fits all night.
Alabama 20, Texas 19 - The Longhorns could have - and probably should have - won this game. They missed a field goal at the end of the half, going into the locker room 10-10. Texas took a 19-17 lead with 1:29 remaining, then a 33 yard field goal with ten seconds remaining beat them. Alabama was penalized 15 times, the most ever under Nick Saban. Alabama only scored in the first and fourth quarters.
Appalachian State 17, Texas A&M 14 - The giant killers strike again. The game was tied twice, but the Aggies never led. After the Mountaineers took a 14-7 lead in the third quarter, A&M returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown. App State made a 29-yard field goal with 8:09 remaining stand up. The Mountaineers lost two fumbles.
Kansas State 40, Missouri 12 - The Wildcats led 20-3 at the half. The Tigers turned the ball over four times.
Tennessee 34, Pittsburgh 27, OT - The Panthers scored on a 4-yard touchdown pass with 2:23 remaining to send the game to OT. In the OT, Tennessee scored and Pitt didn't. There was one yard difference in total offense.
Arkansas 44, South Carolina 30 - The Razorbacks led 21-9 at the half, and they scored 23 points in the fourth quarter. Carolina had three turnovers.
Georgia 33, Samford 0 - The Bulldogs cruised to an easy win over an overmatched opponent.
Auburn 24, San Jose State 16 - The Tigers trailed 10-7 at the half. Auburn had two turnovers.
Ole Miss 59, Central Arkansas 3 - The Bears had four turnovers. They were outgained by the Rebels 508-233.
Wake Forest 45, Vanderbilt 25 - Wake led 21-10 at the half. Vandy's three turnovers didn't help.
LSU 65, Southern 17 - The Tigers led 51-0 at the half.
Mississippi State 39, Arizona 17 - The Wildcats had 40 yards rushing on 22 attempts.
National games
Marshall 26, Notre Dame 21 - How can I not lead off with the best score of the week? I knew that the Irish's fraudulent top ten ranking would be exposed, but I didn't believe that it would be the Thundering Herd who would do it. Marshall intercepted ND three times, one returned for a touchdown. It would have been four, but an interception on ND's last drive was nullified by a penalty. Notre Dame' last lead was 15-12 with 14:57 remaining. ND's last score was with 14 seconds remaining after Marshall had scored 14 unanswered points.
Georgia Southern 45, Nebraska 42 - The Scott Frost firing countdown is officially under way. An eight-yard touchdown run with 36 seconds remaining clinched it for the Eagles. This game was 28-28 at the half. Southern won despite having two turnovers. They had 642 yards total offense - against a Big Ten team. Oklahoma visits Lincoln next week. "We got beat on schemes, and I really didn't have an answer", said the coach who is soon to be unemployed. Nebraska had taken their only lead of the second half before the winning score. They missed a field goal on the final play.
Washington State 17, Wisconsin 14 - Both teams had three turnovers. All of the Badgers' points came in the second quarter.
Texas Tech 33, Houston 30, 2OT - The Red Raiders led 17-3 at the half, but the Cougars rallied to take a 20-17 lead with 37 seconds remaining. Tech tied the game 34 seconds later. The teams traded touchdowns in the first OT, then Tech scored a TD after Houston kicked a field goal in the second.
Incarnate Word 55, Nevada 41 - Ever heard of Incarnate Word? I believe that they know them in Reno now. The Cardinals led 24-17 at the half and never trailed again, eventually stretching the lead to 38-17. IWU had 616 yards total offense. It's in San Antonio, for you trivia buffs.
North Carolina 35, Georgia State 28 - The Tarheels scored the only fourth quarter points in a 28-28 game. GSU trailed 21-10 at the half, but the Panthers scored 18 points in the third quarter to draw even.
Louisville 20, Central Florida 14 - The Knights led 14-7 at the half, but they didn't score in the final two quarters.
Air Force 41, Colorado 10 - The Falcons led 21-10 at the half. They outgained the Buffaloes 443-162.
Texas-San Antonio 41, Army 38, OT - The Roadrunners trailed 21-14 at the half. A 7-yard touchdown pass in OT won it. Almost 1,000 yards total offense.
Brigham Young 26, Baylor 20, 2OT - A future Big 12 matchup was taken by the Cougars, who scored the only points in OT. BYU missed a two point conversion in OT2, but it didn't cost them. Both teams missed field goals in the first OT.
