SEC
Tennessee 38, Florida 33 - This defense can't stop anything. The Vols had 349 yards passing, and 229 yards rushing. It seemed that every time that they needed a first down, they got it regardless of the distance. Turnovers were even at two apiece. Anthony Richardson passed for 453 yards and two touchdowns, but everyone not named AR had a total of 79 yards rushing. The decision to try a two point conversion while trailing 38-27 was puzzling. Not much difference trailing by ten or nine, but trailing by 11 leaves you needing two touchdowns. On the plus side, there was no quit in this team.
Georgia 39, Kent State 22 - The Dawgs led 12-10 in the second quarter. Georgia had three turnovers. Georgia had allowed ten points all season prior to this game.
Auburn 17, Missouri 14, OT - Mizzou fumbled on the goal line in OT with a chance to win.
Ole Miss 35, Tulsa 27 - The Rebels didn't score in the second half, riding a 35-17 halftime lead to the win.
Mississippi State 45, Bowling Green 14 - The Bulldogs led 31-7 at the half, and held the Falcons to 250 yards total offense.
Texas A&M 23, Arkansas 21 - The Razorbacks jumped out to an early 14-0 lead, but could only manage seven points in the second half after falling behind 23-14 in the third quarter. An 82-yard fumble return for a touchdown by the Aggies with Arkansas about to take a 21-7 lead turned the game around. A potential game winning field goal by Arkansas bounced off the upright.
Alabama 55, Vanderbilt 3 - Nick Saban's pre-game compliments about the Commodores aside, after Vanderbilt cut an early lead to 7-3 the rout was on. Vandy only managed 129 yards of total offense, including 14 yards rushing on 26 attempts.
Kentucky 31, Northern Illinois 23 - Tied 14-14 at the half before Kentucky gained some separation with a 10-0 third quarter.
LSU 38, New Mexico 0 - The Lobos had two first downs and 88 yards total offense.
National games
Middle Tennessee 45, Miami 31 - The Blue Raiders led 24-3 in the second quarter. Every time that the Hurricanes threatened, MT answered. Two touchdowns in the fourth quarter gave them a 45-24 lead. Miami had three turnovers, one a first quarter interception returned for a TD to give MT a 14-0 lead. MT had never beaten a ranked opponent.
Kansas State 41, Oklahoma 34 - Much-maligned former Nebraska QB Adrian Martinez showed that maybe where he played was the problem. With Oklahoma down 34-27 and needing a stop to try to tie the game, Martinez ran for 55 yards to the Oklahoma four yard line on third and 16. Martinez scored two plays later. It was Martinez's fourth rushing TD of the night. He also passed for one. Oklahoma has a big problem with false start penalties, with several killing drives.
Syracuse 22, Virginia 20 - The Orange stopped the Cavaliers on fourth and four from their own 49 with 27 seconds remaining to move to 4-0. Cuse led 16-0 at the half, but Virginia took a 20-19 lead with 5:51 remaining. The deciding field goal came with 1:14 remaining.
Oregon 44, Washington State 41 - The Ducks scored 29 points in the fourth quarter, taking a 44-34 lead after trailing 34-22 with 6:41 remaining. An interception return for a touchdown with 1:01 remaining was the killer for WSU. The Cougars scored with one second remaining to cut the lead to three.
Kansas 35, Duke 27 - If you were looking for a battle of unbeatens in week four, odds are that you didn't have this game in mind. Duke never led, and the Jayhawks pushed the lead to 35-20 in the fourth quarter. Kansas is 4-0 for the first time in 13 years.
Texas Tech 37, Texas 34, OT - The Longhorns tied the game with a 48 yard field goal with one second remaining in regulation. Texas led 31-24 after three quarters, but the Red Raiders took a 34-31 lead with 21 seconds remaining on a 45 yard field goal. Tech's first home win over Texas since 2008.
Clemson 51, Wake Forest 45, 2OT - Both teams had leads. The Tigers tied the game at 38 on a 52 yard field goal with 4:01 remaining.
USC 17, Oregon State 14 - A 21 yard touchdown pass with 1:13 remaining brought the Trojans back from 14-10 down.
Minnesota 34, Michigan State 7 - The Golden Gophers led 34-0 with 1:48 remaining. The Spartans turned the ball over three times.
Michigan 34, Maryland 27 - Much closer than most recent matchups between these two teams. The Terps' three turnovers likely did them in.
Western Kentucky 73, Florida International 0 - No truth to the rumor that I am a candidate for the Golden Panthers' head coaching job. Total offense reflected he final score, 688-180.
Ohio 59, Fordham 52 - The Bobcats needed a 21 point fourth quarter to overcome the FCS Rams. Fordham had scored 28 points in the third quarter to lead 49-38. Ohio set a new school record for passing with 537 yards. The two teams combined for 1,332 yards.
San Diego State 17, Toledo 14 - Trailing 10-0 at the half, the Rockets took a 14-10 lead in the fourth quarter, when they scored all of their points. A one yard run with 41 seconds remaining won it for the Aztecs.
Sacramento State 41, Colorado State 10 - It's hard to tell who the weakest team in the MWC is between Nevada and CSU (although Hawaii may be in the discussion as well). I don't know if it is worse getting buried at home by a Big Sky team, or giving up 55 points to Incarnate Word. The Rams had 75 yards rushing.
UTEP 27, Boise State 10 - The one time beast of the MWC is no more. The Broncos led once, 3-0 in the first quarter. Boise had 177 yards total offense.
James Madison 32, Appalachian State 28 - The magic ran out for the Mountaineers. The Dukes, in their first year in FBS, moved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the Sun Belt. JMU scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to come back from 28-17 down.
UNLV 34, Utah State 24 - Not significant in the overall scheme of things, but the Rebels have already exceeded last year's win total by the fourth game. At 3-1, their only loss was by six points at California in a game that they could have won.
Purdue 28, Florida Atlantic 26 - The Owls scored with 5:21 remaining while trailing 28-20, but they missed the two point conversion.
Stephen F. Austin 98, Warner 0 - Rout of the week, from FCS. The Lumberjacks led 35-0 after one quarter and 59-0 at the half.
