I have to wonder what is going on in the collective minds of the fanbases of two prominent SEC West schools.

Texas A&M backed up the armored car to hire Jimbo Fisher from Florida State. This is his fifth year at A&M. The only year that the Aggies haven't lost at least four games is the COVID-shortened season in 2020. This year, only four games in, they have already lost at home to Appalachian State and gotten shelled in Starkville by the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

LSU backed up a similar truck to pry Brian Kelly away from Notre Dame. There were numerous questions about his strategies and game management at ND, and those were on full display as the Tigers dropped their opener to Florida State. To show you how screwy that the polls are, LSU is ranked after losing to Florida State, who are no longer ranked. They won Saturday because Kelly finally faced a coach as inept as he is at managing talent. Auburn could have put the game away, but not scoring in the second half was a killer. When seven points after halftime will beat you, you're pretty much screwed anyway.

A&M painted themselves into a major corner with his contract. According to an article that I will link, A&M owes him every cent of his remaining salary if they fire him without cause. For example, if he were fired on December 1, he would be owed $95.6M, with 25% due immediately and the remainder in annual installments until the expiration of his current deal in 2031.

The only coach - the only coach - who I would have given a deal like that to is Nick Saban. End of list.
