While we nurse our own wounds, I can't help but look at our good friend Jimbo and think of how many millions of dollars Jameis was worth to him. He's an average coach, his record shows that if you take away that one player. TAMU didn't hire him, they didn't pay him $75M, they didn't open up the NIL mega bucks, just so he could have another 4-loss (or more) season. Now I know his seat probably isn't hot, but only because THEY ARE PAYING HIM $75M. But money seems to be limitless in TX so maybe it's getting a tad warm.
It doesn't help when you dish out Zookian quotes after being handed your second terrible loss of the season: "We have good players. We're right there, It's not like we're getting ran out of the stadium," Fisher said. "We've just got to find a way to make a play or two — all the sudden you will get over the hump. It's just the way it goes."
Translation: "we have the talent but the coaching sucks". Now we'll probably lose to the Aggies because we've got a talent gap that can't be denied. But we've probably got a decent chance of winning, based on recent experience.

Can you imagine the noise if we somehow manage to win in College Station?
Give Florida State credit. They apparently realized what Texas A&M did not, that it was not worth paying what Fisher was asking. He picked the wrong year to try to shake them down, and A&M did not adequately assess his coaching skills. FSU has had several poor seasons since then, but it seems apparent that it wasn't due to them losing a superior coach. They were sinking whether Fisher stayed or not. Jameis Winston masked a lot of problems within the program in both recruiting and player preparation, and now they get to watch someone else twist in the wind. A&M has spent a ton of money trying to buy success, first with Kevin Sumlin and then with Jimbo Fisher. They will serve as a very expensive object lesson in how not to build an elite program.

When he said he has good players he was correct: Based off 24/7 sports, here is where A&M has finished in recruiting the last 5 years: 22-1st 21-8th 20-6th 19-4th 18-17th As the legendary Paul Harvey would say, "Now you know the rest of the story"

Apparently he also does a good job recruiting coaches, which finally put him over the top. Jimbo is trying to duplicate that, and that Texas oil money is going to help A LOT, but so far, no good.

Did FSU really refuse to pay him? I got the impression they were shocked that he was leaving.

If I remember it was not just about paying him. He had a whole laundry list of things he wanted right down to a new office complex for him and his staff. In the end FSU just said, ok just go away so we can start our coaching search.

Fisher wanted an indoor practice facility, just the latest of several demands before he finally left. Jimbo Fisher always wanted more, this time FSU was tired of giving

Three more players from the #1 ranked 2022 recruiting class have been suspended at Texas A&M. I can't vouch for the accuracy, but one report cites drug use in the locker room. One of the knocks on Jimbo Fisher, especially at the end of his time at FSU, was a lack of overall discipline and accountability among the players. This is the second suspension of multiple players from that recruiting class. Aggies suspend 3 football players indefinitely, sources said

Locker room drug use is pretty damned brazen. Even by dumb kid standards.

With last night's loss to Ole Miss at home, the Aggies are in serious jeopardy of not making a bowl game - at all. They sit at 3-5 (1-4 SEC). We travel to College Station next week. The only gimme remaining on the schedule is UMass. They also have road games against Auburn and LSU. Lose any two of those games and they finish 5-7.

We're not in a lot better shape though. If we lose to A&M, we have to win 2 of our last 3. One of those is against FSU who beat LSU, and another to USCe who beat A&M and UK both. Not to gloom and doom this season but it's been a struggle and is going to continue to be a struggle.

Not to gloom and doom this season but it's been a struggle and is going to continue to be a struggle. All true, but we weren't expected to contend for conference and national honors. It's rather the point that Texas A&M and their high dollar coach find themselves in much the same position as a rebuilding program under a first year coach.
