SEC
Georgia 42, Florida 20 - About as competitive as I expected. At least the Gators put up 17 points after spotting Georgia a 28-3 lead. Georgia won by three scores despite three turnovers. Georgia averaged six yards per carry, the Gators 2.9. We go to College Station next week, and three of our final four games are on the road.
Missouri 23, South Carolina 10 - The Gamecocks' stay in the top 25 lasted one week. Only three field goals in the second half, two by Missouri and one by SC.
Arkansas 41, Auburn 27 - With word today that Auburn has hired a new AD, this may have been it for Bryan Harsin. A 14-0 third quarter by the Razorbacks was decisive. Arkansas rushed for 286 yards.
Tennessee 44, Kentucky 6 - The Wildcats got to within 7-6 in the first quarter, and that was it. The Vols had more than double the yardage, 421-205. Their defense also forced three turnovers. Tennessee goes to Athens next week to decide the SEC East.
Ole Miss 31, Texas A&M 28 - Down ten late, the Aggies scored a touchdown with 1:25 remaining. A&M has lost four straight games for the third time in the past 25 years. A&M is 3-5, 1-4 in the SEC.
National games
Utah 21, Washington State 17 - Closer than many expected, but the Utes were without several key players, including QB Cameron Rising. The Cougars closed the gap with a 10-0 fourth quarter, but they couldn't get key stops in order to get the ball back. Wazzu had little going in the running game, picking up only 42 yards.
North Carolina State 22, Virginia Tech 21 - Most of the scoring came late, with the Wolfpack leading 3-0 at the half. The Hokies put up all of their points in the third quarter to lead 21-10, but they were outscored 12-0 in the fourth. A total of 21 penalties called, 13 against VT.
East Carolina 27, Brigham Young 24 - The Pirates hit a 33-yard field goal on the final play. Both teams were stopped on fourth and one in the fourth quarter. A pass interference penalty against BYU on fourth and eight extended the game winning drive.
Kansas State 48, Oklahoma State 0 - The #9 Cowboys said goodbye to the top ten in a big way. The touted OSU defense was torched in the first half, with touchdown passes of 31, 38 and 41 yards and a 62-yard touchdown run. O-State had 217 yards total offense. This happened with the Wildcats starting a backup QB.
Louisville 48, Wake Forest 21 - The #10 Demon Deacons were outscored 35-0 in the third quarter after leading 14-13 at the half.
Central Florida 25, Cincinnati 21 - A 17-yard touchdown run with 17 seconds remaining decided the game.
Miami 14, Virginia 12, 4OT - The fact that it took four overtimes for the teams to put up 26 points tells you how entertaining that this game was. The Hurricanes tied the game at 6 on the final play of regulation. No touchdowns were scored.
Illinois 26, Nebraska 9 - The Illini, ranked #17 coming in, moved to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the Big Ten. The Huskers did not score after halftime.
Southern California 45, Arizona 37 - The Trojans were pushed more than most people expected. The Wildcats trailed 31-29 with a quarter to play.
Charlotte 56, Rice 23 - A week removed from firing their head coach after a 1-7 start, the 49ers scored 42 points in the second and third quarters.
