A lot of sense in that. I understand that our offense had to be watered down under the circumstances, but it was far too predictable.

Yeah, exactly, and I also have to wonder if that's what the play calling looks like with Richardson and Etienne, what would it look like without 2 of the most explosive players in the country? Hopefully not what it looked like on Saturday, but that's the most accurate predictor we've seen. I remember exactly one play design/play call that resulted in an explosive play last year, sideline throw that went the distance against UGA. Richardson had to make a perfect throw and look off the safety. Other than that most of our explosive plays were based on Richardson throwing an accurate deep ball 60+ yards or broken plays where he and/or one of the backs were just better athletes than the guys they were playing against. What happens if/when we don't have a freak? Because the next man up (who hopefully is not currently on the roster) will not be physically capable of doing what Richardson did. Could and hopefully will be a better QB and way less raw, but there's not another guy like that out there.

I hope I’m wrong, but thus far I get more of a “Yellow Teeth” / “Insert interchangeable OC of Zook and/or Muschamp” vibe versus the way I felt about Urban Meyer bringing his offense in from a smaller conference. In year one under Meyer, there was definitely a “square peg, round hole” issue, but he adapted as the season progressed and tweaked the offensive scheme to fit what Chris Leak and company did well. The offense was improving week-to-week and evolving based on current competition. What scares me about Napier, is his offense has not shown any signs of development - very much like the rinky dink bullshit offenses that Zook, Muschamp, and John Denver used to roll out there week in and week out hoping our WRs could break off an 85-yard screen pass for a TD.

I could have almost called the plays on Saturday ahead of time, and if I could, it's a cinch that the Oregon State defensive coaches could. Handoff up the middle on first and second down for little or no gain, throw in an occasional quarterback draw, pass with little chance of completion on third and long. I'm no offensive coordinator, but it seems to me that since the Beavers were bringing pressure all day, why not sneak Etienne out of the backfield and hit him on a screen in space? He is the most elusive talent that we have remaining. Why not take full advantage of it?

Halftime adjustments never happened and with the ears pinned back on the opposing defense I don't recall seeing any screen attempts. It's really not difficult.

Everybody focuses on the offense, and it was terrible in the bowl game. Terrible. But y'all know we have one of the worst defenses in the country, right? 29 points and 415 ypg is bad. Very very bad. Shocking we won 6 games with those numbers. So I guess what I'm saying is that we need a new offense and a new defense. Other than that, we're fine. This is fine.

Actually in the bowl game I thought that the defense was the better of the two units, especially given that the offense was repeatedly putting them back on the field shortly after they came off.

While I don't disagree that the defense played better than the offense in the bowl game, that's like saying vomit is better than crap (sorry for the mental image). Our D was still 8 for 13 on 3rd/4th down, didn't get a single TO, and allowed them to score every quarter. Let's face it, the game was over by the end of the 3rd quarter, so they basically came out gassed after halftime. UF actually won the time of possession battle, and got no points, but the D wasn't on the field the whole game. It also doesn't make up for a season of bad play. RG

RG I definitely wasn't insinuating that the defense was good. I have seen some video from the game that shows that some players didn't put out much effort. We won time of possession mainly because we burned a lot of clock on running plays stuffed for little or no gain, and Oregon State hit some big plays that shortened the time of some of their drives.
