What happened to the kid from coastal Carolina? Was there an academic issue?

El O'Elle. He better be looking for more than just a QB. Beggars and choosers and all that. Since we're using business terms like "in the market" here's a breakdown on QB(s): basically we had a manager with a ton of upside that was largely unfulfilled that made the leap to a Fortune 32 company that dangled big money in front of him on the premise that his training to date was the major issue in his production. We went on the market for someone with experience and came away with the 20th best guy that was looking for a new gig and had been fired from a lower end job. Maybe call it laid off or demoted but basically if we're Wal-Mart he couldn't cut it at K-Mart or Dollar General but we're hoping something clicks. We had the 9th best guy coming out of college/training program but after we outbid a competitor for him and he accepted our offer we tried to renegotiate. That was done by an outside consulting company but one that works exclusively in our personnel department. So we're left with the former K-Mart manager, an assistant manager from another Wal-Mart who didn't have a realistic shot at getting promoted at that store (Miller), and a guy who came out of training program a couple years ago that has 2 jobs and seems to be leaning towards his other one as a career path (Brown). We also got a guy that said he'd work as a file clerk (walk-on from IMG) in hopes that everybody missed out on his potential. Given that most of the real candidates are gone and/or not interested (they detail that in the story which is kind of burying the lead), we've posted a classified ad and are skimming Indeed. We're going to have to get very lucky at QB, lightning (Trask) will need to strike twice and Brian Johnson (or the media will say Dan Mullen) has left the building.
Good news is the retooled offensive line is more highly regarded and graded higher than the guys that left (other than O'Cyrus) especially Goodwin and Mazzcua. Bad news is both have struggled with weight and year one of Napier's S&C program was underwhelming to say the least. Good news is they brought in some highly regarded defensive linemen. Bad news is I've gotten no indication that they will stop running Watson out there even if he's morbidly obese. They had better options last year (especially at the end of the regular season) and they just kept waddling him out there.
Also Patrick Toney. I just don't understand. I hope he shows me what's up this year, but it reeks of a "fire the coordinator" hold card given that we really don't have an OC since Napier calls plays.

What happened to the kid from coastal Carolina? Was there an academic issue? On January 1, he withdrew from the portal. As far as i know, there was no further explanation. I don't know if he felt a strong desire to return to Coastal, or if maybe the available options were not appealing to him.

Just throwing it out there but one of the assistant coaches for my son's 8th grade football team hit the upright from the 25 yard line at a practice this Fall. It was a dime. Looks like he's probably class of like 2010-14 maybe? I don't think you'd have to give him preferred walk-on status, just regular walk on status would probably do it. Save that scholarship for some 380-450 lbs. project on the line of scrimmage with a cool nickname.
If it doesn't work out he could be the assistant to the graduate assistant in charge of graduate assistants' administrative assistants. Then when Napier goes somewhere else he can make him the DC.
