Gators took the College Baseball World Series into the last day (today), when they beat the brakes off LSU yesterday in a 24-4 laugher. Leading the best 2 out of 3 final series 1-0, LSU took an early lead at 3-1, as the Gators pitching struggled to find the strike zone. But all that was forgotten during the ensuing 23 unanswered Gator runs over the next 7 innings.
The Gators scored in every inning but 2, and put up innings of 6, 5, 4, & 5 during the stretch. The top of the order finally came out of its shell and Ty Evans, hitting in the 8 hole, homered in back to back innings, including a Grand Slam in the 3rd.
This was total domination by a superior team. That said, in baseball, momentum only goes so far as the next day's starting pitcher and LSU has Paul Skenes, the best hurler in the country, with a 1.69 ERA (Gators have nobody with an ERA under 3.5). Skene's only on 3 days rest, but you can bet he'll be throwing for LSU tonight. You can also bet nobody's scoring 20 runs, or even 10 (he previous high score in this year's tournament was 7 runs). Gators are likely starting Jac Caglianone, the southpaw pitcher who is also the best home run hitter in the country (33). They move him between P, 1B, and DH, always keeping that bat in the lineup. Game is at 7pm tonight.
Go Gators, get that Championship!
