With every hope that this will change, it seems that we need a repository for the dubious achievements of the latest coaching regime.
First losses to Vanderbilt and Kentucky in the same season since 1974. I have vivid memories of the last time this happened, because it was my sophomore year at UF. We had just beaten LSU at home to go 4-0 and we were ranked #5, the first time in school history that the Gators had been ranked that high. We lost at Vanderbilt the following week. I wasn't in Nashville for that game, but I went with a pep band on the Kentucky trip. Like every game in the 1974 season, we had a lead at halftime. Then things collapsed in the second half. We lost by 17.
Fewest third down conversions in a game in nearly 20 years (1, Utah, 8/31/23). The Gators did not convert a third down until the fourth quarter.
Fewest points in a game since a 27-2 loss to Florida State in 2015 (3, Oregon State, 2022 Las Vegas Bowl). We were within 37 seconds of ending the nation's longest scoring streak (365 games, last shut out by Auburn 16-0 in 1988) when Adam Mihalek kicked a 40 yard field goal with the game essentially over. Our leading rusher in that game? Trevor Etienne with 14 yards. We had 180 yards passing, but it sure didn't seem like it.
Three consecutive losses to Kentucky for the first time since 1951, when Bear Bryant coached the Wildcats. The 33-14 final in 2023 was Kentucky's largest margin of victory in the series since 1979.
For the second time in the 2023 season, in the Kentucky game the punt return team incurred a pre-kick penalty that negated a defensive stop and led directly to a touchdown by the opposition. It also happened in the season opener at Utah.
Third consecutive loss to Georgia by 20 points or more.
Home loss in overtime to 2-6 Arkansas, who scored three points in their previous game at Mississippi State. The Razorbacks had never won in Gainesville.
Most yardage surrendered to an opponent in school history, 701 yards, LSU 11/11/23
Only quarterback in FBS history to pass for over 300 yards and rush for over 200 - Jayden Daniels, LSU 11/11/23. Passing 372 yards, rushing 234 yards.
Three straight losing seasons for the first time since 1945-1947.
Five straight losses to end the 2023 season.
Seven blue chip players flipped to other schools during the early signing period in December 2023, as the class ranking plummeted out of the top five into the lower reaches of the top 20.
One player taken in the 2024 NFL draft, the lowest total since 1980. To top it off, the Gators didn't recruit Ricky Peasall. He was a transfer from Arizona State.
