hailfloridahail.com/2023/09/05/florida-football-espn-qbr-rates-graham-mertz-worst-sec-qb-week-1/I don't understand why the writer of the article is surprised by this, I guess hope springs eternal? Graham was not good on Thursday. He was widely considered the 12th-14th best QB in the SEC and he had the 14th best rating. He was the 24th ranked QB in the transfer portal behind such stalwarts as Nick Evers, Kedon Slovis, Jeff Sims, Cade McNamara and, drum roll please................................................................................................................................... Emory Jones! He led the offense to 10 points in a Spring Game prompting Real Deal Billy who was keeping it real because that's a deal to promise that "we're not done at that position." Then somehow, miraculously, 10 weeks later "Graham is the guy we identified and targeted early on."

Are you paraphrasing Dennis Green's famous post game interview: He is who we thought he was!

Are you paraphrasing Dennis Green's famous post game interview: He is who we thought he was! Yep. It's a strange world when the best thing from a Gator offense is throwing underneath a deep prevent for 200 yards while losing by 3 TDs. I guess that's where we are though.

gatorswire.usatoday.com/2023/09/14/florida-football-graham-mertz-negative-reviews-the-athletic/The Mertz man reminds me quite a bit of Desmond Ridder up here in Atlanta, the local media/homers have one view and the rest of the country has a very different view. Heading into SEC play this is the big concern: “The book on Mertz, who threw 29 touchdowns and 21 interceptions the last two seasons at Wisconsin, was pretty clear: heat him up and watch him melt. He was eighth in the Big Ten last year and 13th in 2021 in pass efficiency when pressured.” “While Mertz has only been pressured on 13 dropbacks so far this season, he’s taken five sacks, attempted only seven passes, completed just two and thrown an interception in those situations. He has the SEC’s worst passer rating against pressure, which we could maybe dismiss as a small sample size if the same problem didn’t plague him with the Badgers.” Also, I don't think rank him 7 in the SEC is "negative" I have seen him at either 13 or 14 in every other poll.

Reading the article closely, I noticed they ranked him 7th of the 8 new starters in the SEC, not in the entire SEC, far less flattering..... but probably accurate.

The article cuts you off asking for subscription before they give you the ranking, but it does give you the list before booting you:
Thorne - Auburn Mertz - Florida Leary - Kentucky Swann - Vanderbilt Weigman - Texas A&M Milton - Tennessee Milroe - Alabama Beck - Georgia
looking at the list it could be their ranking, 8 to 1. Not sure Leary would be as low as 6 though, so probably not.

Yeah I agree also don't know that Milton would be that high.

Thorne is pretty bad. I tried, in vain, to watch the entirety of the Auburn-California game last Saturday night. Both teams were so dreadful offensively that I just had to take a pass a few minutes into the third quarter.
