Thoughts:
1) This seems ridiculous to me. I have always assumed that teams use scouts and attend opponents games, I'm guessing that has gone on for as long as College Football has been remotely popular publicly. To think that every team isn't doing this in some way, shape, or form is laughable. This is a multi-billion dollar industry. I've seen guys scout a 5th grade Catholic School basketball game. Every high school I'm aware of watches the HUDL film on their upcoming opponents, usually against other future or past opponents. In another breaking story, I have a source that told me that Jim Harbaugh's wife actually set their DVR and taped the Ohio State-Penn State game on Saturday. He plans to watch it! He may listen to the commentary from Gus Johnson but he probably won't be able to process at the same level so he might mute it just to be fair.
2) This could be bigger than Spygate? What kind of narcissistic self congratulatory bullshit is that? Sending people to games is going to be bigger than hidden cameras in a neutral site before the Super Bowl? Come the fuck on.
3) If your signs can get stolen from a 5 person group in a stadium that holds 80-110k people you are doing something very very wrong.
4) Harbaugh is an asshat, I'm guessing his personality plays into this at multiple levels, this likely ends with him getting a show cause and leaving for the NFL Chip Kelly style. Or the way it happened in Dan Mullen's fantasy world. Good riddance.

Harbaugh was uncooperative with NCAA investigators in a prior investigation. Since then, they have targeted him.
For the teams getting their signs stolen, here's an idea: Change them from one week to the next. If your signs are being stolen by a guy sitting in the stands recording on his cell phone, you don't have a very sophisticated system to begin with.

If you suspect your signs are stolen then change them at halftime. Or better yet, do the opposite to deceive your opponent.
Deion said it best: Even if they know your play you still have to the ability to stop them.

I used to coach baseball for a 10 year olds' state champion team. Our signs were pretty much unbreakable. You had a key sign, like touching the hat, or chest, or arm, or chin, belt, you get the idea. Then you gave the sign for what you wanted, like steal, bunt, etc. The only sign that mattered was the one after the *first* key sign. After that, you could blow signs at them for 5 minutes. Or you could wipe it off and start over. But without the key, nobody could open that lock. And if you thought they had it (this never happened), you walked into the dugout and gave everyone a different key sign. Good luck to the opposing team.
Football is more complicated than bunt, steal, take, swing away, but geez, just make it hard on the other team and they'll quit trying. Sometimes I wonder what kind of meatheads coach football.

Why can't we have helmuts for the QB that communicate with the coach like they do in the NFL?

Why can't we have helmuts for the QB that communicate with the coach like they do in the NFL? Because it is a college football tradition to be behind the times when it comes to technology and reality. Usually you have at least 2-3 people on the sidelines signaling in plays, and only one of them is “on.” That person changes by quarter, half, game, etc. depending on circumstances. Even if you figure out the signals, it is ridiculous to assume you gain much of a competitive advantage, if any at all. If your team loses because the other team “stole” your signals, then you deserve to lose.

I have seen the AT&T commercial for the helmet that they have developed for deaf and sensory impaired players. It features the football team at Gallaudet University, a school for the deaf. The play call is input on a tablet on the sideline, and it appears on a small clear screen mounted inside the front of the helmet. This could be used by both offensive and defensive signal callers on the field. No hand signs, no poster boards with cartoons or Batman logos. No more misread or misinterpreted signs, impossible to steal the signs.

So looking at Harbaugh's record prior to 21 when he was 49-22, never beat Ohio State, only finished higher than 3rd in his division once in 7 years, and finished top 10 one time and comparing it to the 34-3 with two wins over Ohio State and 2 (tracking for 3) playoff appearances has changed my opinion on this. Michigan should get hammered and be put on probation for at least 2 years. The whole "don't punish the kids" thing is stupid to me, they benefitted from it so they can pay the price. Give them extra time and a free entry into the portal if it's really about the kids.
The opinion that hasn't changed is that Big 10 coaches (especially Ryan Day) have nobody to blame but themselves. If they were "fighting fire with fire" it seems they knew about this. Michigan has gotten embarrassed the last 2 years in the semi-finals getting thumped by a real team and losing to a team that shouldn't have been there in the first place. TCU has even said they were able to use Michigan's scouting against them. How can the Big 10 coaches not do the same?

The point has been made that Michigan's staff didn't have TCU's signals, and they were in a state of panic about it.

Here's where the shit could really hit the fan: Michigan was 11-2 against the spread in the regular/Big 10 season in 21 and 8-4-1 in 22. If Gaming Commissions get involved things are gonna get crazy. There's also how it came to light with the most logical theory I've seen (certainly better than Ryan Day has a relative who is a private investigator) is that evidence was found during an FBI investigation into child pornography materials. Michigan fired their QB Coach and OC Matt Weiss in January for vague computer crimes, there was something in their crime log about unauthorized access of someone's account, but a normal email hack does not bring in the FBI. www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/fbi-working-with-university-police-in-investigation-of-former-michigan-oc-matt-weiss-per-reports/Then there's the staffer that solicited a 13 year old girl www.foxnews.com/sports/michigan-fired-staffer-video-surfaces-trying-solicit-13-year-old-girl-reportAt any rate, strange goings on up there. I thought it was a witch hunt because Harbaugh is absolutely an asshole, but there's so much circumstantial evidence, not the least of which is that he beat Ohio State who was the 2nd most talented team in the country last year and then couldn't stop TCU who wasn't great despite having a month to prepare for the latter.

I’m not one to paint with a broad brush, but when I was in the military back in the 1900’s everyone I ever met from Michigan was a horse’s ass. Without fail.

Now Harbaugh is suspended for the second time this season, this time "from the game venue" for the remainder of the regular season. But not suspended for the playoffs? He can coach the team all week, prepare the game plan, prepare the coaches, prepare the team, run practices, motivate the team, do all the coaching things, but has to miss the last 3 games. They're drinking some strange brew up there.
In an unrelated event, there was this guy at the game in Happy Valley who bought his ticket from Stubhub with a credit card under the name Bim Jarbaugh. Carry on!

Harbaugh actually has an alibi for this one. ESPN showed him attending a women's volleyball game in Ann Arbor while the Penn State game was going on.
