The once-mighty Clemson Tigers sit at 4-4 after losing to a team who had nine first downs and 202 yards of total offense (NC State). Against Duke in the season opener, turnovers were a problem, especially in the red zone. Dabo Swinney was a proven winner, such a hot commodity that his buyout includes a 50% higher amount for his alma mater Alabama. This year, Clemson can't get out of their own way. They came unraveled in a highly uncharacteristic way in the Duke game.
Clemson is at .500 with four games to play. Those four games are Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and South Carolina. They have to win two of these games to become barely bowl eligible. The team who had become a regular fixture in the college football playoffs, appearing six times, may wind up under .500 for the season. They are 2-4 in a conference which they once ruled.

Was reading earlier that Clemson fans are coming unglued about this season. I don’t know much about the program but from what I gather folks are trippin’. Buyout is 60 mil I believe.

From the few snippets I've read, it really seems like Dabo has lost the fire. He's hanging around for the millions. And the millions and millions. And waiting for another Deshaun Watson / Trevor Lawrence back to back QBs, to come along.

Dabo is in full on righteous sanctimony mode, he's so busy raging against the machine and "doing the right things the right way" when it comes to NIL and the transfer portal that he lacks the commitment, desire, and ability to win games.

As I mentioned in another thread, Swinney apparently refuses to adjust to the modern game. He seldom uses the transfer portal to fill needs, and Clemson is behind in the NIL game. Swinney grouses about these things, but doesn't take advantage of the opportunities that they present. With the short attention spans of sports fans and recruits, it won't be long until Clemson's dominance will be such a distant memory that they won't be able to trade on it any longer.

Swinney told a caller to his radio show, "You're part of the problem." He further told him, "You can apply for the job, and good luck."
Just a coach engaging with the fans.

Man i actually liked Dabo's response to the fan. Never been a Dabo fan but it reminded me of a late 70s to mid 80s Southern territory pro wrasslin promo!!!!!!! All he needed to do was start with "Let me tell you something"!!!!

My favorite part was when he threatened to go somewhere they will appreciate him. I think that doofus actually thinks Bama is still planning to come calling when Saban retires. He's already fallen behind Sark, Kiffin, and probably some others (maybe even Deion), and if he continues to rage against the machine by not using the portal and NIL or making any adjustments he'll be off the list altogether sooner than later. It is almost reminiscent of Mullen and. his take on recruiting generally. "I'm bad at this so I'm going to pretend it's not important," I think Dabo will make a fine offensive coordinator for the Lake Oconee flying mullets.

I always thought in his younger days Dabo looked like a random guy who jumped out of the stands and said, “Let me at ‘Em” Scrappy Doo style after the team was struggling one Saturday and fired the head coach on the spot. He just looked out of place like he was handed a headset by a shrugging coordinator who told him to go ahead and give it a shot.

Clemson's plummet has greatly shortened the list of places where he would be "appreciated". You can only trade on prior reputation for so long before you have to actually produce. Clemson has lost seven games in the past two seasons, and that is with four games remaining in this season. Clemson will likely lose at least two of their remaining games, with an outside shot at dropping all four. Even three losses would leave them at 5-7 and out of the bowl picture. Mark your calendars for November 25 for the Freefall Bowl between Dabo and Shane Beamer. It hasn't been a great year for football in South Carolina. Even Coastal is 5-3.
