Bronze Stalk Trophy week! This year's game between Ball State and Northern Illinois will be at NIU in DeKalb, IL. For those who will undoubtedly be making the pilgrimage north to see this magnificent event in person, according to ESPN you can get tickets starting at $3. Out of curiosity, I checked this out. There are no end zone seats at NIU, and some of the $3 tickets are on the first row of the section. Kicking it up to $15 will put you near midfield. The game is on Tuesday, November 7 at 7 PM EST.

15 bucks? You think I'm made of money? It's OK, dude. Just take the $3 front row seat near the 20.

OK, but it better be good. I'm used to the finer things in life. Champagne taste, beer budget!

Ball State 20, Northern Illinois 17 - The Cardinals came from behind on the road to win their fourth Bronze Stalk in the past five years. The game was 10-10 at the half, and there was no scoring in the third quarter. The Huskies took a 17-10 lead on a 35-yard run with ten minutes remaining. The Cardinals tied the game on a six yard touchdown pass with 3:44 remaining. During the ensuing possession, NIU fumbled a handoff and Ball State recovered. A 36 yard field goal on the final play, by a kicker who had missed twice, decided it. NIU had three turnovers.
I got a great screen shot of the post-game celebration. If I can edit it down to a size that the system will allow me to insert into a post, I will put it up. It's magnificent.

I had a friend in high school that went to Ball State and played linebacker. They love their football in Muncie Indiana. Had a few really good times up there that I can almost remember, I think.

I had a friend in high school that went to Ball State and played linebacker. They love their football in Muncie Indiana. Had a few really good times up there that I can almost remember, I think. David Letterman has been especially generous to his alma mater. The plaque in the journalism and communications building that bears his name reads in part, "Dedicated to all of the C students." I gather that ol' Dave probably had some fun during his time in Muncie doing things other than studying. Letterman frequently mentioned Ball State on his talk show. He would share his misery when the team was bad, and pump them up when they were good. He said that the cardinal is "the fiercest robin-sized bird in the animal kingdom." He said that while he was there for the building dedication, his son mistook the mascot Charlie Cardinal for "a giant parrot".
