He was noncommittal when asked about this after the Rose Bowl. Somewhat surprising, but not a total shock.

I’m mostly surprised he left on a loss. I know he rich as hell but I’m really surprised that ego let him retire on an L. Anyway, Napiertobama.com should happen. If work is slow tomorrow it might get legs.

If work is slow tomorrow it might get legs. I saw one place where they actually had the audacity to put him at 14-1 odds. This should happen just to see how much he breaks Mike Price's record for being fired the fastest. He wouldn't even need to go to a strip club and hire a hooker, he could do it with sheer force of personality or lack thereof.

I think they made Saban retire while Mullen was still available.

Dan Lanning has cut off speculation that he might be a candidate to succeed Saban, stating that he will remain at Oregon.

Annnnnnnnnd like clockwork:
"This is a HUGE opportunity for us to get some of these Florida kids on the Bama roster and/or the ones who signed from 24 class into the portal!" has become all the rage.
One of my friends even said it. Those people are in the denial stage. Next will be anger, "I can't believe that we didn't get any of the 5 stars and starters that left Bama and all we've gotten is an overweight lineman who never played for Bama but became a shitty starter for us." Looking at you Damien George.
The final stage is acceptance where you realize that the absurdity of our current situation and can laugh. In the case of "getting Florida kids" let's use this statistic:
Of the top 50 kids in Florida per Rivals in 2024 the in-state schools breakdown like this:
Miami- 8 FSU- 6 UCF- 3 UF- 2 USF- 1
That's hilarious.

And all the while our crack team of evaluators are trying to convince all of us crazy people outside of those “in the know” that we are being very selective about going after high character guys who have bought in to our program. The truth is that there aren’t that many top level guys out there, everyone knows who they are, and everyone is going after them. We just suck at it.

Steve Sarkisian and Mike Norvell have also quashed rumors that they might be going to Alabama. A sports writer claimed that Dan Lanning was in Tuscaloosa, right about the time that Lanning stated that he was staying at Oregon.
Generally, you don't want to be the one who follows the legend.

The most logical choice to replace a legend is to see if there are any previous position coaches that have been demoted in the past - ideally without previous head coaching experience -- and hand them the keys. Bet on a real "go getter" with blind passion instead of one with measurable and meaningful on field results.

ESPN also reporting the same.
Yeah, we get Kiffin with a chip on his shoulder! Kiffin in FL with a bone to pick with Bama for not even giving him a look could be fun. I'm in, can we start now?

Looks like I was a little premature in taking the college coaching carousel down. Saban retired, Washington's coach to Alabama, Arizona's coach to Washington, now Jim Harbaugh talking to NFL teams.
Resident ESPN loudmouth Steven A. Smith was pushing Deion as "ideal" for Alabama, a year after ripping Auburn for not hiring him.
