Category: Florida Gator Sports Inept athletic directors for $1000 1979. "when was the last time that the Gators had losing seasons in both basketball and football the same year?" These two idiots should be ashamed of themselves. They've set the program back more than 40 years. Alternate answer...... "What was SoTxCaiman's Freshman/Sophomore year at UF?" Back then they were on the Quarter system. I started Fall Quarter of 78. Damn I'm old.

Wow! Didn't see this coming. Jalen Carter has some legal trouble on the way. Should we expect a fall in his draft position? es.pn/3EMq23Q

I have no idea why you wouldn't do everything in your power to get Charlie Strong to take that position. I am mind blown. I really hope they have at least talked and maybe Charlie said he had no interest. Saban is probably overjoyed at the thought of swapping Armstrong for Strong. Like I said from the beginning...

Early rumors have Charlie Strong going to Maryland with Mike Locksley and the recently hired Kevin Sumlin. Watch out here come the Terps!
Hadn't seen until your article Taps that our tightends coach, Peagler was going with Toney to the Cardinals. 3 guys from the current staff poached by the NFL, damn.

I look at that picture of Armstrong and all I can think is....
.....Sure, I only played 3 years on the high school JV, but I was really, really good at Madden!

Patrick Toney, @gatorsfb's co-DC and play-caller last season, is in negotiations to join the NFL's Arizona Cardinals as a defensive assistant, sources tell ESPN, and Florida's Billy Napier is targeting newly hired @alabamaftbl assistant Austin Armstrong as Toney's replacement.

I lived in Mobile, AL for a little over 10 years. The high school and neighborhood Toney came out of was some kind of rough. They were playing a home game against one of the best teams in the country out of Valdosta GA one year. I think Valdosta was #2 in the country at the time. I was planning to go and during the week leading up to it, I had several different black co-workers go out of their way to come to my office and tell me that as a white man I was crazy to even think about going. Had one guy tell me that I was nuts to go, but if I did I really, really needed to make sure I got out quick the minute it looked like Blount may get beat.
The things he did in Gville didn't surprise me at all. He was so out of his element I am sure he had no idea how to cope in the beginning. Happy for him, hope he continues to grow.

As far as the annual part of the schedule LSU is the winner by far (Ole Miss, Arkansas, and A&M) and Auburn seems to be the loser (Bama, Georgia and Miss State). We could have done worse with OU, Georgia and South Carolina.

Hate to say this out loud, but I think as sad as this sounds in todays world, there was as much or more dis-like of the interracial side of Charlie's family than just the fact he is black. I agree if we stay the course in football, basketball, baseball, and really everything but track and tennis the subject needs to be brought up.

Not sure they plan on divisions moving forward. Talk I heard was everyone just go play and then the 2 best conf records meet in Atlanta.
All I can say is they better have some good tie breakers set up.

I also see our old friend Doug Nussmeier is now the former QB coach of the Dallas Cowboys after being let go at seasons end. The Cowboys pretty much cleaned house on the offensive side of the coaching staff.

I thought about Dion as well but didn't think that would be something he would do after only one year in Colorado. Now if we are talking after 2024?
Dion would kill it recruiting at UF.

All valid points. Just for the sake of discussion, let's say that Florida decides that Napier isn't going to work out after 2023, and they part ways. Where do we go? I have no idea. In years past, I have had a personal short list (which unlike Foley's, contained guys who were realistic hires who had shown the ability to build something), but right now I have nada. Nobody jumps out at me the way that Urban Meyer did. Another factor is that even though it was necessitated by awful hires, we have developed a habit of firing coaches before the end of their initial contracts. This may make some coaches who would otherwise be interested to be a little leery. From my own standpoint, I don't consider anybody who is a head coach at a top 10-15 program to be a realistic hire. Nobody is going to leave something that they have already built into a solid program for a rebuilding project. You forgot Kiffin. He is a little older and a little more mature and may be worth taking a chance with.

Well now that he is released let's see if we can forecast his next landing spot..........
Committed to Miami..... Loved the atmosphere and relished the history and the chance to rebuild it. (+$9M) Flopped to UF..... Couldn't pass on the family feeling and the relationship he had cultivated with Billy N. (+$13M and a big OOPS!)
I am guessing his next school will be.........
.....THE UNIVERSITY OF THE HIGHEST BIDDER.....

Iām sure. Probably to maximize the TV audience. I'm not sure how much of this makes the national news, but regionally there is a lot of talk about the Pac-12 realizing that they have an exposure problem. The SEC, ACC and Big Ten Networks are widely available. The Pac-12 Network, not so much. Moving the Florida-Utah game to Thursday would give them a TV spot that would not be competing with any other game. ....and spotlight their precieved big win over an SEC school. I am sure they are planning a big butt whooping for the Gators and in the big spotlight they will make as big a score as they can, might be ugly.

People can say what they want about the Saban mystique with recruits but his age is starting to make a difference. Head to head he is starting to lose guys to the younger more relatable Kirby. Saban now more than ever needs young relatable Coordinators that can help him sell Bama. He needs the Kiffin's of the world on his staff. Catch 22 is you can't keep those guys long. Things are lining up for the Dawgs right now.

Bottom line is, we as a program are not able to crack a Top 25 list that includes Tulane. Nothing against Tulane BUT, The University of Florida should never, ever, have a football program that is looking up at Tulane. If this was a list of party schools, maybe (I do somewhat remember a few nights on that campus that still bring a smile to my face) but we are talking about a football poll not fuzzy recollections of good times had. We have a long way to go folks.

The thought that I am constantly wresting with when reviewing the past season results and now seeing how many afraid of work/accountability rats we have jumping ship is, how much of our second half record was due to the ship jumpers just not giving 100%? First half of the season looked fairly good for a first year coach and staff and then.... At what point did the 30 something guys that bailed to the portal say, if only to themselves, you know what I'm not going to be here next year, why am I going to bust it in the weight room, in film study, in worrying about Gator success?
Let's go into next year and let the best 22 we have regardless of class or age go at it and learn as we go. We are going to be out gunned next year in almost every SEC matchup, but that's the hand we have been dealt lets roll with it and have fun. Run the whole offense, play balls to the wall aggressive defense and at the end of every week we can look back and learn, but we need to start building something that other kids want to be a part of. Something that we can sell kids on joining and convince them they can be the difference makers that can put us over the top. We should hope to finish next year 6-6 with losses early and wins late and come away with a roster full of kids that are proud as hell about the 6 wins and chomping at the bit to get back and work on fixing the 6 loses. That and a top 10 recruiting class next year and we may be on to something. If we have another 25+ guys in the portal next year I may just go back to Friday night football.
Go Gators!
