...I find it refreshing that our new head football coach realizes and appreciates the importance of the band in game day atmosphere and motivating his players. Coach Billy Napier recently paid a visit to band practice in Gainesville. Contrast this with my time at UF, when head coach Doug Dickey tried to get out of taking the band to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl to save money for the university. The Sugar Bowl people told him that we were part of the deal. Still, we spent 13 hours each way on buses while the team flew to New Orleans and back.

Yeah but I bet you had weed in the back of that bus. Well, it was the 1970s. Breakfast was a screwdriver and a peanut roll. Some things you just don't forget.

The things I remember are insignificant yet somehow memorable. Then I can't remember the important stuff. Probably wasn't the weed though.
