Good God. On making a jump in results from year one to year two: "Yeah, no. I mean, we just weren't very good. You know, we can't, you know, so. We're going to improve. You know man, year one is a blender, man. I mean, there's a lot that comes with it. You know, it's certainly, and the two new variables that were thrown into the mix in a transition year I think contribute as well, right. So, you gotta hire a group, you got to get to know a new group of players, new recruiting footprint, new investors, new leadership. Just a lot. You know, certainly new competition. You know, I just really got a lot of confidence in our approach. You know, I think we've hired well and I think we're all gonna get better. And that starts with me, right? So you know, it's personal, if that makes sense. I mean, it really is. It's what we do, right? We teach, we coach. We evaluate, we recruit. And all those things are part of the job, but the most important part is the leadership component. And, you know, all these things start with me, and anybody that knows me will tell you that we're gonna get it right." 247sports.com/college/florida/Article/Florida-football-Billy-Napier-quotes-spring-practice-scrimmage-notes-Graham-Mertz-Gators-207487187/

That article was a difficult read. I guess you missed the part where you can ask ANYBODY he knows and they'll tell you he's gonna get it done. Like anybody. A lot of coaches you can only ask like their immediate family and maybe 3-4 friends and they'll vouch for them but anybody who knows them? Man no telling what you're gonna get. That's a pretty good deal there man. It's a real thing right? I mean you know we can't, you know, so. Just a lot of new things and processes and certainly and stuff like that, but you do the deal and then you know you make the pudding. Right? And it starts with him so he's gonna do it. I feel A LOT better about the direction of the program. Kind of embarrassing that I ever questioned Scott Stricklin at this point.

Lots of "you know" in there, filler that people throw in to buy time when their mouth is outpacing their brain and they have no idea what to say next.

You ever notice how they all put their spin on coach speak? I mean, Ron Zook was a rare bird, but CBN has his own thing too. Spurrier had the smirk to go with the insults, Mullen had Darth Vader, Yellow Teeth had his shark, Muschamp had that vein on his forehead. They all have their thing. All I have to say is scared money don't make money, and you can take that to the bank. Ask anybody.

Yeah this is pretty much dead on, you must have prepared through a process involving meticulous attention to detail, I asked your best friend from middle school in Gainesville and your 11 year old son who is 11 years old and they told me you are the bestest at preparing meticulously and trusting the process with unwavering belief. I actually don't mind Napier's coach speak nearly as much as folksy McGoober or the guy who invented the spread offense and gurus all QBs ever just ask him, where he starts to lose me is when I have trouble reconciling his words and his actions. For example: 1) "Scared money don't make money," yet we didn't run the best RB in the country who also happens to be able to throw the ball 80 yards effortlessly (we also didn't throw deep against decent defenses instead going with the intermediate passing game and misdirection) because we were scared he was going to get hurt. 2) "We're going to be the most prepared team out there, physically and mentally." Desmond Watson, 101st in nation in penalties, at least 4 plays including the most crucial of the season where the Defense wasn't lined up pre-snap, also Desmond Watson. And Gervon Dexter. And Desmond Watson. 3) "I'll have my hand in every aspect of the program, I'll manage every single factor" Rashada, 14th ranked recruiting class, going for 2 arbitrarily, S&C department that is responsible for Desmond Watson as well as everybody not named Anthony Richardson bombing the combine. I guess O'Cyrus kinda held serve, mostly because people knew coming in that he had what scouts like to call "a terrible body," likely developed over the 4 years he spent in Napier's S&C program that he's super involved in. 4) "Recruiting generally and especially in Florida is key, we're gonna close the border." None of the top 20 kids from Florida in 23 came to UF, highest ranked kid was 23, the 3 we got from the top 30 are all CBs. 5) "We spend more money on staff than anybody!" Maybe it's quantity over quality, but our OCs (gonna count Sale and Napier because we don't really have an OC) have 3 combined years of play calling outside the Sunbelt and the one who actually called plays got fired by his mentor at the only comparable program, and our DC has no experience outside the Sunbelt and is replacing a DC that had no experience outside the Sunbelt. We also brought back a guy who wasn't good enough to be retained a year ago. I could probably expand the list to at least 10-15 maybe 20 where the talk doesn't match the walk so far. My bigger concern is that he doesn't seem inclined to change. I'll take all the coach speak in the world if his words and actions at least start to remotely coincide, but doing the same shit and expecting different results is the definition of insanity

I hate to keep ragging on Desmond Watson, but he embodies so many of the contradictions mentioned above. Preparation. Conditioning. Discipline. Every time he trots out on the field, I have to call bullshit on all of it.
