Mostly flat, but the defense did get measurably worse. We can't cover or tackle - everyone knew that. One thing that stuck out to me was the takeaways. Last in the country, really? ST went from bad to worse. Oh, we did learn to score in the red zone, so we got that going for us. Which is nice.

The good news is I'm sure sweeping changes are on the way in both the personnel and coaching department. If there's one thing I know about Real Deal Billy with the steady hair it's that he makes substantive changes and where there's a weakness he identifies it early on and jumps right on it. For example, after the Utah game we didn't have one time that 2 guys wearing the same number were on the field, even if it meant only sending 10 guys out there.

Yeah, those numbers. I think anyone outside of the SEC or Florida football that knows RDB will tell you he will work tirelessly until it is fixed.

From South Carolina to Mizzou we allowed an average of 534 yards per game. On offense we got worse across the board except for time of possession, red zone scoring, and passing yards. I would like to see the non-garbage time stats there. We also were in the bottom 20% of plays over 30 yards and bottom 10% in plays over 40 yards. Without Etienne I daresay that explosive plays number would go down considerably (although we would have gotten more garbage time so there's that). Nothing about last season indicates that we don't need a lot of help at multiple positions and new coordinators in all 3 phases of the game. But when in doubt, fire the black guys with Power 5 and NFL experience. That should fix it.

The help is on the way piece is confusing to me. Yes Lagway is likely to stick, I'll even be a little Pollyanna and say that only Williams decommits and maybe we get one of our targets to flip and we wind up 6-10 in recruiting. So far we've only lost one starting lineman to the NFL draft. We've lost a starting receiver to the portal and Pearsall is graduating. Mertz is coming back. We've lost the top 2 recruits from the 22 class to the portal, 4 of the top 10 and the 11th, that doesn't count Etienne. Mertz is coming back and being handed the starting job. What position group are we getting better at on offense right now? Or Defense. Nothing projects to improve. That isn't good.
