A report has surfaced that Florida State will leave the ACC for the Big Ten "within the next month". A meeting of the FSU Regents is scheduled for January 31, at which their conference affiliation will be decided.

A couple of additional items regarding this: FSU has wanted to join the SEC for at least 25 years. The SEC is apparently more interested in teams that would expand their footprint, like North Carolina and possibly Virginia. If FSU goes to the Big Ten, that would leave the Big Ten with an odd number of schools (although without divisions, that might be less of an issue). They would love to add Notre Dame, but I don't see them giving up their independent status. Clemson or Miami is far more likely to happen.
The ACC is a dying league that will go the way of the Pac-12 within five years, and for almost identical reasons: Failure to remain competitive revenue-wise, and failure to make meaningful additions through expansion. California, Stanford and SMU are not league savers, especially if their biggest names are bailing. The Big 12 has done a much better job replacing Texas and Oklahoma, and their revenues are higher. The ACC will be left in the dust, because there aren't any needle movers left to add.

Apparently things have been moved up a bit. A meeting has been called for Friday morning.

FSU has sued the ACC over the grant of rights agreement and the withdrawal fee - the first step toward exiting the conference. Their point of contention - or one of them - is that the ACC has not held up their end of the bargain in terms of television revenue, putting them at a competitive disadvantage.
