It really does seem like the moves Napier has made in the past year have been designed more to protect himself than to actually improve the team. We could have had Charlie Strong or Ike Hilliard, and instead ended up with Tits McGee, Gonzales re-tread, and the 45 other cast of jokers on staff. It feels like he is trying to hang on as long as possible, not trying to win. For certain. If I thought it was intentional I would actually tip my cap, but the winding road to get there and then contradictory stuff like figuring out your handpicked strength and conditioning coach who you brought from the Sunbelt sucked after 2 years or saying "better people make better players" three weeks after bringing in Cormani McClain doesn't scream "long term plan." Either way, somehow there's not anybody you on staff you can make interim with a straight face. I would venture to say this is the one plan he has actually executed albeit not intentionally.
