Gator Marching Band will perform today at Normandy beaches to commemorate D Day. Since I am computer illiterate maybe someone can post a link to the article in tbe Gainesville Sun.

Gator Marching Band will perform today at Normandy beaches to commemorate D Day. Since I am computer illiterate maybe someone can post a link to the article in tbe Gainesville Sun. I have been getting updates from the Gator Band Alumni page on Facebook. They were supposed to perform in a parade, but it was canceled. Normandy is not a big place, and with all of the tourists and foreign dignitaries descending on the town, it was decided that it would be impossible for large groups to get to where they needed to be in a timely manner. |

Too bad, but I'm glad they were there for tbe experience. I'm sure it was a forever memory

Over the past several years they have gone to Ireland, South America and France. I got two bus rides to New Orleans, and an overnight in Atlanta in a hotel room with a dead rat in the light fixture on the way to Kentucky. I donated to all three trips. |

That is rough, but when you factor in that they have to sit through the games during the season, I might prefer the dead rat. Hey, I was at UF during the Dickey years. My sophomore year was the last time that we lost to Vanderbilt and Kentucky in the same year. It was during a trip for the latter that I experienced the dead rat. I must add that the Kentucky fans were largely hospitable to us (the 44 who made the trip with the pep band). One said, "Please play something. Our band sucks." The Lexington paper published an article the following day that said how we were humiliated by the Kentucky band at halftime. We didn't do a halftime show. |
