It is a foregone conclusion that Billy Napier will be fired in 2024. The only question is whether it will be during the season or after it. Who do the Gators turn to next to find an effective leader to produce results? No right or wrong answers, just a topic of discussion. Before anybody suggests it, however, we aren't getting Steve Spurrier, Urban Meyer or Bob Stoops.

Pretty good read. Seems like a smart kid. Smart enough to leave while he still has time to salvage his draft prospects, and smart enough to pick a landing spot where he has a chance to make a difference and not potentially get buried on the depth chart. His statements about strength and conditioning confirm what most (if not all) of us have believed about Napier all along - that he is running the Gators like we are playing in the Sun Belt. I am 100 percent convinced after reading this that Napier won't last the season, and it will be catastrophic. This season will be like the year after we came off NCAA probation, and it is entirely self inflicted. If Stricklin still has a job after this, I will be convinced that UF administration truly doesn't care about the Athletic Department. Thanks for sharing this.

So we're trying to help a bad coach to resurrect his career, and you guys act like that is a bad thing. Heartless bastards. Oh no it’s much worse than that, he’s referring to mark hocke the s&c guy who brought us Desmond Watson and the two slowest DBs at the 23 NFL combine. You see Cajun Willie is helping him change careers out of the S&C field where he was underqualified but at least had experience (including sunbelt of course) into the coaching field where near as I can tell this “associate head coach” role is his first rodeo and came with a guaranteed contract from Starkville Scotty too hotty. As CWT summarizes: ““I do think that we’re right in the middle of that process,” Napier said. “But I can’t compliment Mark enough relative to the work he’s done for us. We wouldn’t be here without Mark Hocke. I’m excited about helping Mark pursue some of the things that he and I have always discussed.” He’s so damn genial and magnanimous. What a guy. Right? He helped Des get to where he is today. That's all that I need.

One of the things that Mark and I have always talked about is what’s next for him in his career? “Ultimately we’re going to try to help Mark with that, and he’s going to be doing different things for our organization, a lot more upstairs, kind of making some of that transition into the coaching element,” Napier continued. “He’s always had aspirations to do those things, and I think that presents an opportunity for us to bring new leadership from a strength and conditioning standpoint.” So we're trying to help a bad coach to resurrect his career, and you guys act like that is a bad thing. Heartless bastards.

Desmond eats dogs! You heard it here first!
OK, it is hot dogs, but still.

The Alabama center who had several bad snaps during the season, including two on consecutive plays that killed a drive on Monday, has entered the transfer portal. Fits right in with our team concept. The only minus is that he has never played in the Sun Belt.

Anyway happy New year bob It started out with a water line break that flooded the entire downstairs the day after Christmas. I went downstairs to see my shoes floating past the stairs. I am living in a hotel until repairs are completed. My birthday is tomorrow, which I will celebrate with a medical appointment. 2024 has to be better.

Other than me, it was pretty competitive this year. Congrats to Surf and SoTX for the best records. Wahhappen and g8rfan were only one game behind them.
Next year I may just make random picks. It couldn't turn out any worse. I was the only one under .500, clearly illustrating why I don't hit the local sports books to place bets.

To add to this, how would an incoming high school player know that special teams will be OK with no changes? Did he even watch any of our games last season?

I have a high school classmate who will probably die in federal prison for a similar violation.

I figured that it was a cinch prison term. I certainly didn't see him playing college football again. It's probably going to be brutal for him on the road.

Out of curiosity why was Napier considered a great recruiter out of Sunbelt? Hard work and hiring army of assistants? Not sure how that translates to SEC recruiting/closing. I believe that we already have the answer to that. Closing isn't on the agenda.

Why not eschew the buyouts entirely and offer Billy $5 million/year plus a ton of incentive bonuses? Were they worried the **checks notes** ULL coach making $2 million would say no to that?? You’re talking about the same dream team that brought us the “fly the private jet to Colorado and get our guy” plan. We’re always in a secret bidding war for unproven coaches that no other serious program wants. That was so "secret" that Colorado sports media was waiting at the airport when Foley landed.

Hope that FSU didn't prepay for those "championship" rings. It's 42-3 Dawgs at the half - pretty much how their first playoff game would have gone.

Exactly. That franchise has been a mess. But I wonder why he left NFL for a lesser paying job. I don't know what NFL or college nutritionists are paid or how the salaries compare. I also don't know how the job conditions compare. He could just be tired of New York.

I hear that this works really well. NFL teams are tricked into bidding wars, because they don't want to be left out. After all, the interested teams must know something, right?

From an NFL team which has had only one winning season since he joined them in 2016, that being an 8-7-1 record in 2016. Impressive. Nutritionists can't fix bad drafts and poor coaching.

Well, he recorded more interceptions than our entire team in 2023, so there is that. I scored as many defensive touchdowns as our entire team, so there's that as well.

I wasn't going to dig up an old thread just to add this, but in case you didn't see it: New Mexico State head coach Jerry Kill has stepped down, and he has been replaced by Tony Sanchez. Sanchez is the answer to a trivia question: Why you don't send a high school coach to do a college coach's job. UNLV hired Sanchez from Bishop Gorman High School, and the results were predictable.
In another footnote to CCC, Jeff Tedford may not be out at Fresno State. He stepped down before the bowl game for health reasons, but according to multiple articles this may not be permanent.

Napier is technically right about us never having players who hadn't signed an NLI, but what the hell? When almost every meaningful recruit in a class flips at the deadline, it is indicative of a much deeper problem. Napier pretending that we didn't really want those players is pure bullshit.

We lost seven blue chippers at the deadline. The comment about assistants is reminiscent of Zook's comments at Illinois after two members of his first coaching staff there bailed before coaching a down at Illinois, presumably to save their careers.

FSU has sued the ACC over the grant of rights agreement and the withdrawal fee - the first step toward exiting the conference. Their point of contention - or one of them - is that the ACC has not held up their end of the bargain in terms of television revenue, putting them at a competitive disadvantage.

Really good read, sad but real.... 😢 My one takeaway was this: Paralysis by analysis. That sums up this whole regime. This recruiting class was the reason that we were supposed to be patient with Napier. The tiny scrap of patience that I had left is gone. Napier will be, too, before the end of this season. Hopefully Stricklin joins him on the unemployment line. He should not be allowed to hire another football coach.
