If our receivers and backs could catch the ball before running, we would be winning.

I would say there is no way in hell a real NFL franchise would take Richardson as the #2 QB prospect, but Jamarcus Russell was once drafted to play that position. Yeah, I mean he'll go, and probably higher than he should, if he declares just because NFL coaches and GMs are largely egomaniacs who think they can coach up anything and there's not many years where the biggest, fastest, and strongest arm are all in one package. The only draft I can think of is Cam. Was going to say Josh Allen but Lamar Jackson was in that class. With all that, I still don't know if he'll get into the first round this year. I know some people think he'd go undrafted but there's no way he gets out of the third round. It only takes one front office to fall in love with potential and somebody will most likely take a flier in the first 100 picks. Thing is, if he comes back and shows any improvement whatsoever, even if it's just calling more runs or looking to run more, his stock immediately becomes mid to late first round, if he shows moderate improvement with better accuracy and/or touch, he becomes a top 10 pick, and if he shows good improvement he'll go 1 overall. That was Napier's pitch after Utah game and I don't see any reason why it should/would change. So, I really hope he comes back. If I was his agent being totally objective (because my money is linked to his) I think the smart play is definitely coming back to UF if he has faith in the staff and they commit to designing an offense and calling plays that showcase his strengths. If he doesn't think they can turn it around, I'd say go to a school with a proven QB developer, most obvious would be Riley at USC but he'd have to wait a year behind Williams, so right now I'd say it would come down to Ohio State (inside track), Alabama, and Tennessee (that would be my pick based solely on his future). Wherever he would potentially go they'll pay him big NIL money and start a Heisman campaign for him out of the gate. That may bring Miami into play as well. We need to make sure he feels that the best place is Gainesville. Should have the inside track since it's his hometown, but it's a new world and it remains to be seen if we're going to adjust to the new rules or just bitch about the unfairness of it all. Oh, I think he’ll get drafted and maybe even in the first round. I just don’t think he should be at this point. He needs another year to prove he can mentally handle a full season when he is scouted 24-7 by high caliber coaching and athletes. He isn’t getting much help from the receivers, but he struggles to even complete a screen pass at times. I think the accuracy is in there somewhere, but he is just too inconsistent right now. He reminds me of a smarter version of Vince Young. When he’s on, he’s on.

Stadium & Gale podcast pointed out that the Gators have the 131st ranked 3rd Down Defense in the country and GA has the 1st ranked 3rd down offense in the country. Oh boy Well the joke’s on them because I don’t think they’ll see many 3rd down opportunities with the way we tackle and cover receivers.

I didn’t realize there were that many teams in FBS, but this tracks with what we’ve been seeing on the field. We have been terrible on 3rd and 4th down since Grantham.

The Bryan Harsin coaching death watch is officially under way. He needed a fluke turnover to beat Missouri in OT, and lost to LSU by four after not scoring at all in the second half. Georgia is up next, and after their close call at Missouri last week, they will be out to prove something. Losing to Illinois at home by 24 and gaining two yards on the ground apparently gets you fired at Wisconsin. Not sure if he gets fired this week, but the failed fake punt in the 2nd quarter pretty much ended the game today. It was a huge momentum shift in favor of Georgia and basically gave them points that Auburn could not afford to give up.

Ok. So why the hell would Napier call two timeouts on the Mizzous FG at the end of the first half just to let the clock run out when they got the ball back? I do not understand his TO/ clock strategy at all sometimes. Why not take at least one shot at the end zone there? You burned two timeouts to preserve clock? Pretty weak sauce imho. Scared money if I’ve ever seen it. Agreed. Especially when they had zero timeouts and were having to rush their ST unit out with a running clock. It was a short FG, but there’s a chance they mess something up if we let the clock run there. The only reason to call a timeout is to preserve clock for our offense to take a couple of shots. I didn’t understand the logic there.

I still don't get it. It's not like you can tie the game in one possession when down nine. The only thing I can think of is that your win probability goes up if you make the two point conversion there. Do we have an analyst on staff? Perhaps Napier consulted with him, taking into account time and situation, and took his advice… that would make me feel better than blindly trusting a chart no matter the circumstances. Most likely, somehow, the math works out to where we had a better chance of winning the game by going for it there. Either way, at least he has a process for making decisions in that scenario.

The defense can’t seem to get a stop. We have forced one punt in the last two games. Is Todd Grantham still on staff?

So frustrating to give up that TD before the half, but the offense seems to have its mojo back. And AR is playing with more confidence

I think we’ll find out a lot about this coaching staff on Saturday. We are definitely outmanned (which is a ridiculous situation the previous regime has put us in), so they will need to get creative on both sides of the ball. If we take the same approach as the last two weeks, it will be ugly.

Don’t get me wrong. I like the general vibe of the program under Napier. I am just trying to understand the drastic difference from week one to what we have seen the past couple of weeks. We seem ultra conservative on both sides of the ball. Reminds me of when Adazzio took over as OC in 2009, minus the obvious talent gap and experience — just trying to survive and get W’s without taking any risks.
Probably the worst thing to happen was to move up from unranked to #12. If expectations had remained low, we would have less to lose and no reason not to turn it loose. We look tight and reserved. We’ve had some injuries, which has further exposed our known depth issues. Perhaps AR is hurt as well, but we should have the stones to throw the ball more than 4 yards down the field against USF.

Richardson made great scramble for 1st down slide at the end to avoid contact but still came up limping. Right ankle is hurt for sure. Explains our lack of called qb runs. I really think he got dinged up against Utah. He has been hesitant to run and a couple of times he stepped out of bounds when he probably could have put a move on the defender. He doesn’t appear to be 100% to me. I didn’t get to watch the Utah game - only saw highlights - so I have to take everyone’s word (including NFL scouts) that AR is actually a good QB. This offense has looked like the post-death threat version of the McElwain era. No imagination, no receiver separation, no deep shots with our all-pro 80-yard armed QB, no QB runs. The passes we did attempt were all contested, overthrown, or thrown directly to their DBs. Eitienne needs to be on the field as much as possible. He is our most explosive player outside of AR with the ball in his hands. Johnson deserves Carrie’s as well. I feel like the defense was on the field the whole game. Did USF even punt the ball? The whole thing was a mess for us. It is truly amazing we won the game. You could tell Napier felt the same way in his postgame comments. He gave all the praise to USF, and he should since they were the better team outside of 2-3 key plays where they killed themselves.

To be fair, they aren’t used to playing teams with a winning record at 11am.

It could be worse. My car was parked at a restaurant in Knoxville a couple of years ago. When I came out after dinner, my driver’s side window was smashed and someone had placed two Vols football tickets on my dashboard.

I can’t remember. Are we in recruiting season right now or is it football season? Is it safe to ask the coach how it is going with recruiting?

I’m sure l could do a deep dive and research some of these teams a little more, but my gut says 12-0 based on these matchups.
